Zelensky Claims Russian Drones Struck Civilian Infrastructure After Trump-Putin Call

Despite Trump’s push for peace, Putin keeps up attacks while Ukraine pressures West for more aid.

Just days after President Donald Trump brokered a limited ceasefire agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is claiming that Russia violated the deal by launching drone strikes on civilian infrastructure.

The ceasefire, agreed upon last week, included a halt to attacks on energy and infrastructure targets, alongside negotiations for a broader, long-term peace. Yet, according to Zelensky, Russian forces wasted no time continuing their pattern of indiscriminate attacks.

“Around 40 ‘Shahed’ drones are in our skies, and air defense is active. Unfortunately, there have been hits, specifically on civilian infrastructure,” Zelensky posted on X, pointing to strikes on a hospital in Sumy and several cities in Donetsk, along with drone threats over Kyiv, Kharkiv, and other regions.

It’s a stark reminder of the brutal tactics Russia continues to use despite Trump’s efforts to broker peace and stabilize the region.

The White House had announced the “energy and infrastructure ceasefire” after Trump’s phone call with Putin, calling it the first step toward ending the war. Technical negotiations for a maritime ceasefire and a full peace agreement were also set to begin immediately.

But Zelensky’s sharp reaction highlighted the ongoing complexity:

  • Russia allegedly continues nighttime drone attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy sector and civilian life.

  • Zelensky claims Putin effectively rejected a full ceasefire and is instead pushing demands like cutting off military aid from Western allies.

  • The Ukrainian president is now urging the international community to ramp up sanctions, military assistance, and security guarantees to counter Russian aggression.

While Trump’s administration remains focused on forcing a diplomatic resolution, Zelensky’s message serves as a warning Russia isn’t yet ready to stop its pressure campaign without serious consequences.

It’s worth noting that under the previous Biden administration, years of weak policies and failed diplomacy allowed the conflict to spiral. Trump’s return brought the first meaningful ceasefire proposal to the table, but clearly, Putin needs more convincing.

One thing is clear Trump's leadership has brought the two sides closer to the negotiating table than Biden’s ever did. But lasting peace will require firm accountability, something Trump has never hesitated to deliver.
