Whoopi Goldberg Expresses Strong Disgust When Talking About Trump
"The View" cohost continues to refuse saying Trump’s name aloud.
Whoopi Goldberg's disdain for former President Donald Trump was on full display during Tuesday’s broadcast of ABC’s midday talk show “The View.” Goldberg, who has famously avoided saying Trump’s name aloud since his presidency, made a dramatic show of spitting after reluctantly mentioning his name.
During a discussion about the upcoming debate between Trump and current President Joe Biden, Goldberg struggled to clarify her point without directly naming Trump. Cohost Sara Haines emphasized the importance of taking Trump seriously, prompting Goldberg to respond.
“I think it would be remiss of us to not say — Joe Biden knows how to do this. He knows how to do this, he’s quite good at this,” Goldberg said. “And you know, you can’t refute anything with him because he just … and when I say him, I mean … Trump. He tends to just …”
The audience, familiar with Goldberg’s aversion to saying Trump’s name, burst into laughter as she paused, said “ugh,” and pretended to spit on the floor. This theatrical reaction only fueled more laughter from the crowd.
Goldberg has consistently refused to say Trump’s name for years, often referring to him as “you-know-who.” She explained in 2018 that she couldn't bring herself to use his name in conjunction with the office of the presidency. “People don’t like that I don’t do it, I’m fine with that,” she said. “There’s lots of stuff I do that people don’t like, you know, I can live with that.”
Her refusal to utter Trump’s name highlights the ongoing polarization and strong personal feelings that continue to characterize American political discourse. Goldberg's reaction is a testament to the deeply rooted sentiments that many hold about the former president, underscoring the divide that persists even years after his presidency.
