Whoopi Goldberg Accuses Elon Musk of 'Buying the Election' Over Voter Turnout Push

Left-wing media lashes out as Musk’s million-dollar giveaway boosts voter participation.

Whoopi Goldberg, co-host of ABC’s "The View", lashed out at Elon Musk on Monday, suggesting that his efforts to increase voter turnout were illegal. Musk, who owns X (formerly Twitter), has committed to giving away $1 million each day until Election Day to a random person who signs America PAC’s petition in support of the First and Second Amendments.

Goldberg claimed that Musk, a vocal supporter of Donald Trump, was essentially trying to "buy the election" through his America PAC giveaway. “People keep trying to buy the election,” Goldberg said, fuming over Musk’s offer. “Billionaire Elon Musk has gone all in for you know who, and now he’s giving out a million dollars a day to people who sign his super PAC’s petition.”

She went even further, accusing Musk of exploiting some "new loop stuff" to bypass campaign finance laws, suggesting that what he was doing might be illegal. “I thought you couldn’t do this,” Goldberg added, doubling down on her belief that signing people up for a super PAC in exchange for money should be against the law.

The America PAC petition encourages support for free speech and gun rights, a message that Musk argues is being suppressed by the mainstream media. The petition has already awarded two winners $1 million each, with many more expected in key battleground states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, and Arizona in the lead-up to the 2024 election.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) piled on, claiming Musk’s actions were a distraction from Trump’s alleged lack of a political platform. “When you have no plan for the public, no economic plan that’s going to benefit the middle class… you go to these types of tactics,” Walz said.

Musk, however, has made it clear that his giveaway is not about "buying the election" but about energizing voters in a system that he says has been manipulated by left-wing media. Musk’s campaign includes a referral program as well, offering $47 to those who refer a registered swing-state voter to sign the petition, and as much as $100 in Pennsylvania.

Goldberg’s accusations underscore the increasing hostility from the left toward Musk, who has become a major force in the 2024 election cycle. By leveraging his wealth and influence, Musk is working to ensure that issues important to conservative voters like free speech and gun rights stay at the forefront of the political conversation. Whether or not his critics like it, Musk’s efforts are giving voters a reason to participate in the election, and that’s a move that’s hard to argue with.
