No Comment From Whitmer on Muslim Mayor’s Remark Telling Resident He’s ‘Not Welcome’
Dearborn’s mayor mocked a man for opposing honors given to a Hamas sympathizer and Michigan’s governor said nothing.

It’s the kind of story that should have every elected leader in America speaking out but Michigan’s Democrat Governor Gretchen Whitmer has chosen silence. For over a week, she has ignored questions after Dearborn’s Muslim mayor told a Christian resident he’s "not welcome" in the city for criticizing street signs named after a man who openly praised Hezbollah and Hamas.
At the center of the controversy is Dearborn Mayor Abdullah Hammoud, who erupted at a city meeting when resident Ted Barham objected to the city renaming streets in honor of Osama Siblani a controversial Arab-American publisher with a history of anti-Israel and pro-terrorist rhetoric.
Instead of defending free speech or religious tolerance, Hammoud lashed out:
He told Barham he was “not welcome here.”
He said if Barham left Dearborn, he’d throw a parade in celebration.
He told him to "close his eyes" when driving past the signs if he didn’t like them.
This wasn’t just a rude comment it was a public rejection of a citizen’s right to express concern about honoring a man who once said, “the blood of jihadists irrigate the land of Palestine.”
Osama Siblani has a long history of disturbing statements. According to MEMRI (Middle East Media Research Institute) and the Anti-Defamation League:
He claimed Hamas is not a terrorist organization.
He predicted that Hezbollah would “take care of the job” in 2024 against pro-Israel demonstrators.
In 2006, he proudly declared, “If the FBI wants to come after those who support the resistance done by Hezbollah, then they better bring a fleet of buses. I, for one, would be willing to go to jail.”
And yet, despite this record, the city of Dearborn decided to name streets after him. When a Christian resident dared to push back, he was publicly berated by the mayor and Governor Whitmer, who never misses a chance to virtue signal when it fits her narrative, said nothing.
This silence is no accident. The Democratic Party has repeatedly bowed to radical elements in its coalition, whether it’s soft-on-crime policies, open-border chaos, or now turning a blind eye to terrorism sympathizers being celebrated in our cities.
Consider these facts:
Over 1,300 Israelis were murdered in the Hamas terror attacks of October 7, 2023.
Hezbollah is estimated to have over 150,000 rockets aimed at Israel, with backing from Iran.
The FBI continues to monitor Hezbollah sleeper cells in the U.S., including Michigan.
Yet instead of condemning public praise for these groups, Mayor Hammoud and his political allies seem more interested in attacking the people who stand against them.
This isn’t just a local issue. It’s a reflection of the broader Democratic failure to draw moral lines. When a mayor feels emboldened to tell a Christian he's not welcome for objecting to Hamas sympathizers, and a governor stays silent, we’re witnessing the decay of values that once defined America.
Republicans should take note. The 2024 election isn't just about fixing the economy or securing the border it's about restoring moral clarity and standing up to radical ideologies wherever they surface.
