White House Refutes Claims of Biden's Parkinson’s Treatment Amid Intense Briefing

Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre Addresses Growing Concerns Over President’s Health.

In a heated exchange at the White House briefing room, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre emphatically denied that President Joe Biden is being treated for Parkinson’s disease. This denial followed reports that a Parkinson’s specialist had visited the White House eight times in the past eight months, intensifying concerns about the 81-year-old president’s mental and physical health.

“Has the president been treated for Parkinson’s? No. Is he being treated for Parkinson’s? No. He’s not. Is he taking medication for Parkinson’s? No,” Jean-Pierre stated, addressing rumors that the president might have the neurodegenerative disease, which can include dementia as a symptom.

The White House released a statement explaining the presence of the Parkinson’s specialist, saying, “A wide variety of specialists from the Walter Reed system visit the White House complex to treat thousands of military personnel who work on the grounds.” This explanation aimed to dispel any assumptions about the specialist’s visits being related to the president’s health.

Concerns about Biden’s health escalated following his poor performance in the first presidential debate. During an interview with ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, Biden described his debate performance as a “bad night,” attributing his struggles to a cold. Despite this, Biden has been reluctant to commit to taking an independent cognitive test and releasing the results to the public. “Every day I have that test. Everything I do,” Biden remarked, dismissing the need for an additional test.

A recent report from The New York Times, titled “Biden’s Lapses Are Said to Be Increasingly Common and Worrisome,” further fueled these concerns. The report claimed that those in Biden’s inner circle have observed more frequent lapses, where he appears confused or disoriented. “People who have spent time with President Biden over the last few months or so said the lapses appear to have grown more frequent,” the report read. “[C]urrent and former officials and others who encountered him behind closed doors noticed that he increasingly appeared confused or listless, or would lose the thread of conversations.”

As speculation about Biden’s health continues to mount, the administration’s firm denials and reassurances may not be enough to quell public concern. The ongoing scrutiny highlights the growing importance of transparency regarding the president’s health and its implications for his ability to lead.
