Press Briefing Canceled by White House After Hunter Biden's Conviction on Gun Charges

Hunter Biden faces up to 25 years in prison and $750,000 in fines for multiple felony charges.

In a stunning turn of events, the White House canceled today's scheduled press briefing following the federal grand jury's conviction of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, on three felony gun charges. This abrupt decision left many questioning the administration's transparency and its handling of the scandal.

Hunter Biden, 54, was found guilty on all charges: lying to a federally licensed firearms dealer, making a false claim on a federal firearms background check form, and possessing an illegally obtained firearm. These convictions could result in up to 25 years in prison and fines totaling $750,000.

In response to the verdict, the White House announced that President Biden would spend the evening with his son in Delaware, canceling Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre's briefing. Jean-Pierre has often struggled under the spotlight, and today's news would have undoubtedly intensified scrutiny.

Hunter Biden's attorney, Abbe Lowell, expressed disappointment with the verdict but vowed to continue pursuing legal challenges. "We respect the jury process and will vigorously pursue all available legal challenges," Lowell stated. Hunter Biden also issued a statement emphasizing his gratitude for his family’s support and his ongoing recovery journey.

President Biden previously pledged to accept the verdict's outcome without intervening with a pardon for his son. However, speculation arose that he might commute Hunter’s sentence. Special Counsel David Weiss emphasized that the case centered on Hunter Biden’s illegal choices and the rule of law, asserting that no one is above the law, regardless of their family ties or personal struggles.

Weiss highlighted that while Hunter’s addiction played a role, the charges stemmed from his illegal actions, not merely his substance abuse issues. "This case was about the illegal choices [the] defendant made while in the throes of addiction," Weiss stated, underlining the principle that everyone must be accountable for their actions.

As the legal proceedings against Hunter Biden continue, this case underscores the need for accountability at all levels of society. The American public deserves transparency and justice, free from political influence or favoritism.
