Ukraine Accepts Partial Ceasefire After Productive Call With Trump
Trump brokers breakthrough as Zelensky backs U.S.-led path to lasting peace.

President Donald Trump’s bold diplomacy is already paying dividends. On Wednesday, Ukraine agreed to a partial ceasefire with Russia following what Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called a “very good phone call” with Trump a major step toward ending one of the world’s most volatile conflicts.
This development came just one day after Trump’s similarly successful call with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where both sides agreed to restrict attacks on energy and infrastructure targets. Now, Ukraine has officially signed on to that limited ceasefire, with hopes to expand the agreement further in upcoming talks.
“We believe that together with America, with President Trump, and under American leadership, lasting peace can be achieved this year,” Zelensky posted after the call.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio and National Security Advisor Michael Waltz issued a joint statement describing the conversation as “fantastic,” highlighting several key points discussed:
Ukraine’s request for additional air defense systems.
Efforts to secure prisoner exchanges.
Discussions on the thousands of missing Ukrainian children abducted by Russia.
Plans to safeguard Ukraine’s energy grid, including American investment and ownership stakes in Ukraine’s power infrastructure.
Trump’s innovative approach to involve U.S. economic interests in Ukraine potentially giving American contractors ownership in critical sectors adds a layer of deterrence against future Russian aggression without the need for an endless military commitment. As Rubio and Waltz put it “American ownership of those plants would be the best protection for that infrastructure and support for Ukrainian energy infrastructure.”
Further negotiations, including talks on expanding the ceasefire to the Black Sea, will take place in Saudi Arabia, laying the groundwork for what Trump aims to be a comprehensive, lasting peace agreement.
This breakthrough underscores the stark contrast between Trump’s results-driven leadership and the years of stagnation and weakness under Biden’s administration, which allowed this conflict to spiral unchecked. Trump’s diplomacy isn’t about endless summits and photo ops it’s about delivering real outcomes.
Once again, American strength leads to global stability.
