Trump Moves World Closer to Peace With Historic Zelensky Meeting

U.S. President secures agreement for future Trump-Zelensky-Putin summit after breakthrough White House talks

In a moment that stunned the global political establishment, President Donald Trump brought the world one step closer to peace on Monday with a historic White House meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and top European leaders.

The three-hour summit coming just days after Trump’s high-stakes meeting with Vladimir Putin in Alaska resulted in an unexpected announcement: Zelensky and Putin will meet, and President Trump will join them in a trilateral summit aimed at ending the Russia-Ukraine war.

“This was a very good, early step for a war that has been going on for almost four years,” Trump said, calling the meetings “constructive” and “specific.”

Zelensky, once criticized for demanding handouts from the United States under Joe Biden, arrived for Monday’s meeting with a strikingly different tone. His wife had reportedly been moved by First Lady Melania Trump’s heartfelt “peace letter” to Putin, delivered ahead of the Alaska summit. Zelensky handed Trump a personal letter from her in return.

The Ukrainian president, dressed in a more diplomatic military-style outfit, told Trump, “It’s the best I have.” Trump replied warmly: “I love it.” The tone was different. The posture was different. And the results were undeniable.

Inside the Oval Office, Zelensky praised the meeting as “the best one” he’s had with Trump and credited the American president’s leadership with finally moving the conflict toward resolution.

The summit included a multilateral meeting with world leaders such as:

  • Finnish President Alexander Stubb

  • Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni

  • British Prime Minister Keir Starmer

  • German Chancellor Friedrich Merz

  • French President Emmanuel Macron

  • NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte

  • European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen

All of them agreed: something had changed. And Trump was the catalyst.

“In the past two weeks, we’ve probably had more progress in ending this war than we have in the past three and a half years,” said Finland’s Stubb.

Trump emphasized that peace doesn’t necessarily require a ceasefire, although many European leaders pushed for one.

“In the six or so wars that we’ve stopped, we haven’t had a ceasefire,” Trump told the group. “But I believe a peace agreement at the end of all of this is something that’s very attainable. And it can be done in the near future.”

Reports swirled late Monday that Trump spoke by phone with Putin during the multilateral, though the White House has not confirmed. The Russian Foreign Ministry quickly issued a statement rejecting NATO involvement in Ukraine’s post-war security likely responding to Zelensky’s proposal for NATO peacekeepers.

Still, Trump appears to be building momentum. He floated the idea of a joint U.S.-European security agreement to protect Ukraine while respecting red lines from Moscow:

“There’s going to be a lot of help. They are the first line of defense, because they’re there they’re Europe. But we’re going to help them out also.”

When the meeting concluded, Zelensky personally asked Trump to attend the trilateral meeting with Putin.

“If you want me there, I will be there,” Trump said.
“Thank you. I think this is very important,” Zelensky responded.

This is what real diplomacy looks like no posturing, no endless funding bills, no war profiteering. Just bold leadership, clear objectives, and a commitment to peace rooted in strength, not surrender.

While Biden dithered for years and sent over $175 billion to fuel a war with no strategy, Trump in just two weeks has made tangible progress toward ending it.

Peace is no longer just a wish. It’s becoming a plan.
