Trump and Vance Honor Ohio State’s 2025 Championship Win
President and VP praise Buckeyes' grit and take jabs at Michigan in White House celebration.

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance turned the White House into scarlet and gray territory on Monday as they celebrated Ohio State’s 2025 national football championship victory and they did it with energy, pride, and more than a few well-placed jabs at Michigan.
The Buckeyes’ win was historic, not just because they lifted the trophy but because it marked the first championship under the new 12-team College Football Playoff format. And fittingly, they won it all on January 20, the same day President Trump was sworn in for his second term.
“It turns out January 20 was a big day for all of us,” Trump said with a smile, standing beside the champions.
The president praised the team’s grit and comeback mentality. After suffering two regular-season losses including one to archrival Michigan Ohio State stormed back with wins over Tennessee, Oregon, Texas, and Notre Dame to clinch the title.
Key moments from the celebration:
Trump highlighted the Buckeyes’ resilience in the playoffs, calling them “the first 12-team playoff champions in history.”
Star players like TreVeyon Henderson, Emeka Egbuka, and Jack Sawyer were called out by name for their contributions to the victory.
Head Coach Ryan Day stood proudly alongside the team and was recognized for keeping the team focused and championship-bound.
Vice President JD Vance, an Ohio State alum, brought levity to the moment, joking that he had asked Trump to skip the final Inaugural Ball to attend the game in person.
“The president said no, but we’ll have them at the White House,” Vance joked, drawing laughs from the team.
And in true Buckeye spirit, Vance spotted a man in the crowd wearing a Michigan hat and didn’t let it slide.
“I don’t know who let the guy over there in the corner in the Michigan hat into this celebration,” Vance said. “I’m about to tell the Secret Service you’ve got a dangerous weapon, sir.”
Adding to the moment, the hosts of Crain & Company, a sports podcast from The Daily Wire, were in attendance and praised Trump for protecting women’s sports from being overrun by radical gender policies.
“That was an easy one,” Trump replied, making it clear that common sense is back in the White House.
Former Michigan quarterback David Cone, attending the event in a blue suit and his Wolverines championship ring, even gave a respectful nod to Trump for “bringing up the Michigan game” proving that when the Commander-in-Chief is speaking, even the rivalry bows to the moment.
This event wasn’t just a sports celebration it was a reflection of American excellence, merit, and perseverance. In an era when too many want to erase traditions, Trump and Vance showed once again what it means to honor them.
