Trump Team Slams Trans Military Rumors as Baseless Speculation
Incoming administration clarifies no decisions have been made on transgender troops despite media claims.
The Trump transition team swiftly shut down reports suggesting that President-elect Donald Trump plans to remove transgender-identifying individuals from the military. Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s soon-to-be White House press secretary, dismissed the rumors as unfounded speculation.
“These unnamed sources are speculating and have no idea what they are actually talking about,” Leavitt told The Daily Wire. “No decisions on this issue have been made. No policy should ever be deemed official unless it comes directly from President Trump or his authorized spokespeople.”
The rumors stemmed from a report by the London Times, which claimed that Trump would sign an executive order upon taking office to medically discharge trans-identifying troops. The report alleged that approximately 15,000 transgender individuals currently serve in the U.S. military, although it failed to cite the source of this figure or substantiate its claims.
This type of baseless speculation isn’t new. Trump’s previous administration faced similar criticism when, in 2017, he announced a ban on trans-identifying service members, citing concerns over military readiness and costs associated with their medical care.
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military,” Trump said at the time. The ban, implemented in 2019, was reversed by President Joe Biden shortly after taking office in 2021.
The number of transgender individuals serving in the military remains a topic of debate. There is no official count, and claims like the London Times’ estimate of 15,000 lack any concrete evidence. Under the Obama administration, the military began admitting trans-identifying individuals, a policy supported by then-Vice President Biden.
Critics of allowing transgender troops argue that the military must prioritize combat readiness and avoid unnecessary medical costs or distractions. Supporters counter that banning such individuals amounts to discrimination.
Leavitt’s remarks confirm that no official policy decisions regarding transgender troops have been made. Trump’s team remains focused on key priorities for restoring America’s military strength and ensuring its readiness for decisive victories.
As media speculation continues, it’s clear that any official policy announcements will come directly from President Trump or his trusted representatives. Until then, Americans should be wary of unverified claims and anonymous sources pushing politically charged narratives.
