Trump Endorses Marijuana Legalization in Florida — But There’s a Twist
Advocates for Responsible Legislation to Prevent Public Consumption.
Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has thrown his support behind the legalization of marijuana in Florida, but with a significant caveat: he believes its public use should be strictly prohibited. Trump made his position clear in a recent Truth Social post, where he addressed Amendment 3, the proposal on the ballot this fall that could legalize marijuana for personal use in the Sunshine State.
Trump acknowledged that marijuana legalization is likely to pass, given the wave of support for similar measures across the country. However, he emphasized the importance of responsible legislation to ensure that marijuana is not consumed in public spaces, which he claims has become a nuisance in many Democrat-run cities.
Trump argued that marijuana use should no longer be criminalized in Florida, pointing out that arresting adults for possessing personal amounts of the drug is a waste of taxpayer dollars and has the potential to ruin lives.
In his statement, Trump also touched on the dangers of fentanyl-laced marijuana, stressing that legalizing the drug could help regulate its safety and prevent unnecessary deaths. While he reiterated his stance as a strong advocate for law and order, Trump made it clear that being "tough and smart" on crime doesn't necessarily mean criminalizing marijuana use.
If Amendment 3 passes, it is expected to generate significant tax revenue for Florida, with estimates ranging from $200 million to $430 million annually. The measure will need 60% approval from voters to become law, making Trump’s endorsement a potentially influential factor in the upcoming vote.
