Trump Declares Historic Turnaround In Marathon State Of The Union

From inflation to immigration, the president touts sweeping wins while challenging Democrats to stand with him.

President Donald Trump delivered what is now one of the longest State of the Union addresses in modern history and he used every minute to argue that America is experiencing a “turnaround for the ages.”

“After just one year, I can say with dignity and pride that we have achieved a transformation like no one has ever seen before,” Trump declared from the House chamber, framing his second term as a dramatic course correction from what he described as economic and border chaos under the previous administration.

The speech was packed with economic statistics, sharp jabs at Democrats, emotional guest moments, and a clear message heading into the midterms: America is back.

Trump centered his address on the economy, citing declining inflation and energy prices as proof his policies are working.

He pointed to core inflation falling to 1.7% in the final months of 2025 a sharp contrast to the 40-year-high inflation spike that plagued Americans earlier in the decade. Gas prices, he noted, have dropped below $2.30 in most states, with some areas seeing prices under $2.

The president also highlighted provisions in what he called the “big, beautiful bill,” including:

  • No tax on tips

  • No tax on overtime

  • An expanded child tax credit

One invited guest, a homeschooling mother who works nights as a waitress, was projected to save more than $5,000 this year under the new tax structure.

Wage growth has outpaced inflation in recent quarters, according to Labor Department data, offering Republicans fresh talking points as voters prepare for November’s midterms.

Immigration enforcement was another central theme.

Trump spotlighted families impacted by crimes committed by illegal immigrants and challenged Democrats who remained seated when he declared that the federal government’s first duty is to protect American citizens.

“Isn’t that a shame?” he said, as some lawmakers refused to stand.

Border crossings have fallen significantly compared to peak levels seen earlier in the decade, according to Customs and Border Protection data. The administration credits expanded enforcement authority and stricter asylum policies.

Trump also addressed the Supreme Court’s recent decision limiting his use of emergency authority to impose sweeping tariffs. Calling the ruling “unfortunate,” he vowed to pursue alternative legal avenues to protect American industry.

Trade policy remains a cornerstone of Trump’s economic strategy, particularly in countering China and reshoring manufacturing. Manufacturing job growth has rebounded in select sectors, though broader global supply chains remain in flux.

The address included several high-profile recognitions:

  • Royce Williams, a 100-year-old combat aviator, received the Congressional Medal of Honor.

  • Army Chief Warrant Officer Eric Slover was honored for his role in a high-risk operation.

  • Olympic hockey goalie Connor Hellebuyck will receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.

  • Multiple service members were awarded the Purple Heart and other commendations for acts of valor.

The patriotic tone underscored Trump’s emphasis on military strength and national pride.

Democratic interruptions punctuated parts of the speech. Rep. Al Green was removed from the chamber after holding up a sign, while Rep. Ilhan Omar shouted criticisms during a section addressing alleged fraud.

Still, Republican lawmakers delivered repeated standing ovations, particularly during economic and immigration segments.

With Republicans defending narrow congressional majorities this fall, the speech doubled as a campaign platform. Trump framed his agenda as the start of a “golden age of America” just ahead of the nation’s 250th Independence Day celebration.

“The revolution that began in 1776 has not ended,” he said in closing. “Our future will be bigger, better, brighter, bolder, and more glorious than ever before.”

As midterm campaigns accelerate, Trump is betting that voters agree the turnaround is real and worth continuing.
