Trump Declares ‘I’m Not an Isolationist’ While Detailing Second Term Foreign Policy
Trump outlines his strategy of peace through strength, rejecting claims of isolationism.
Former President Donald Trump made it clear during a recent interview with Ben Shapiro that his foreign policy in a second term would focus on peace through strength a continuation of his approach during his first term. Trump rejected claims that he’s an isolationist, stating that his administration kept America out of war while helping allies worldwide.
“Our policy is very simple, peace through strength,” Trump said. “We had no wars, and I’m not an isolationist. I helped a lot of countries. I kept countries out of war.” Trump pointed to an example where he mediated between two smaller nations on the brink of conflict, threatening them with tariffs and sanctions to prevent war.
Shapiro pressed Trump on accusations from mainstream media and the political Right that painted him as either a Russian puppet or an isolationist. Trump dismissed both claims, asserting that Russian President Vladimir Putin would never have invaded Ukraine if he had been in office. “He never would have started the war to begin with,” Trump said.
The interview took place following a visit to the Ohel Chabad-Lubavitch in Queens, New York, where Trump and Shapiro marked the one-year anniversary of Hamas’ October 7 attack on Israel by visiting the tomb of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the influential leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement.
Trump’s remarks further highlight his commitment to keeping the U.S. engaged on the global stage, using economic leverage and military strength to maintain peace, while rejecting isolationist tendencies often attributed to him by critics.
