Trump Opens Up About Conversation with Scarborough and Brzezinski

A surprising Mar-a-Lago sit-down sparks intrigue and skepticism.

President-elect Donald Trump confirmed he met privately with MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski at his Mar-a-Lago estate last Friday. Describing the meeting as “extremely cordial,” Trump emphasized his willingness to engage with the press, even those who have been vocally critical of him.

The meeting, reportedly requested by Scarborough and Brzezinski, marks the first face-to-face discussion between the trio in seven years. On their Monday broadcast, the hosts revealed they hoped to “restart communications” with the President-elect, despite their long history of criticism.

Trump shared details of the meeting during an interview with Fox News, highlighting the tone and topics discussed:

  • Praise for his campaign: Trump noted the hosts congratulated him on running a “great and flawless campaign,” which he described as one of the hardest-working campaigns in presidential history.

  • Cabinet discussions: The group discussed Trump’s Cabinet picks, with Scarborough and Brzezinski expressing mixed reactions to his choices.

  • Future collaboration: Trump affirmed that the meeting ended positively, with both sides agreeing to maintain communication.

While the hosts acknowledged the conversation was constructive, Brzezinski admitted they maintain “deep concerns” about a second Trump administration. Still, she recognized that the nearly 80 million Americans who voted for Trump voiced their desire for significant change.

The cordial tone of the meeting was met with skepticism and criticism, particularly from conservatives who pointed out the hypocrisy of the MSNBC hosts. Scarborough and Brzezinski have long amplified leftist narratives, frequently portraying Trump as a “threat” to democracy. Conservative commentator Scott Jennings likened the meeting to “Hitler getting a lot more meeting requests than I would’ve thought.”

Despite this, Trump explained his approach to dealing with the media: “I have an obligation to the American public, and to our country itself, to be open and available to the press,” he said. However, he warned that fairness is a non-negotiable condition for continued access.

Trump acknowledged that many media outlets, even those that have been relentless in their criticism, are now seeking meetings with him. While expressing his openness to reconciliation, he was firm on limits:

“I am always looking to give a second and even third chance, but never willing to give a fourth chance that is where I hold the line.”

As Trump prepares for his next term, the meeting at Mar-a-Lago signals a possible recalibration of his relationship with certain members of the media. Whether this olive branch will yield lasting results or dissolve into further discord remains to be seen.
