Trump Administration Revokes Visas of 50 Mexican Officials Over Cartel Ties
As cartels tighten grip on Mexico, Trump pulls the plug on corrupt politicians abusing U.S. access.

In a bold move to protect American lives and sovereignty, the Trump administration has revoked the visas of at least 50 Mexican officials tied to drug cartels a crackdown on corruption at a scale never before seen from the U.S. government, according to sources familiar with the matter.
The unprecedented action, first reported by Reuters, signals a new phase in President Trump’s war on narcoterrorism, one that targets not only the cartels themselves, but the corrupt politicians who enable and protect them.
“Travel to America, the greatest country in the world, is a privilege, not a right,” said former DEA Acting Administrator Derek Maltz. “I’m glad to see that the State Department is scrutinizing these individuals at a new level.”
And that scrutiny is long overdue.
A 2024 report from the Texas Public Policy Foundation estimated that 35% to 40% of Mexico is under cartel control. These criminal organizations aren’t just smuggling drugs they’re embedding themselves into the political structures of entire Mexican states, bribing, intimidating, and in some cases directly controlling local and national leaders.
While past administrations have quietly revoked visas in isolated incidents, the Trump administration is ripping off the Band-Aid and exposing the full rot holding foreign officials accountable for their roles in the cartel cancer infecting North America.
Here’s what we know:
At least 50 Mexican politicians and officials have had their visas revoked due to suspected ties to cartels.
The move is part of a larger effort that has already included 27 “kinetic strikes” against cartel-linked vessels transporting narcotics through international waters.
One such strike occurred Tuesday morning off the coast of Venezuela, eliminating six drug traffickers en route to the U.S.
The administration’s zero-tolerance policy has been clear: those who aid the killing of Americans through drug trafficking will not find safe haven or travel privileges — in the United States.
A senior State Department official noted that while they would not confirm specific revocations, visas may be revoked for any number of reasons, including drug trafficking, corruption, espionage, or even collusion with hostile governments like the Chinese Communist Party.
Despite the strong action, the Trump administration has maintained a working relationship with Mexico’s leftist President, Claudia Sheinbaum a fact that highlights Trump’s ability to be tough without dismantling diplomacy.
“We look forward to continuing to advance our bilateral relationship in the interest of the America First foreign policy agenda,” the State Department source said.
That agenda is clear: stop the flow of deadly drugs, crush the cartels, and expose the enablers in power who have turned a blind eye or worse, sold their allegiance for blood money.
As fentanyl and other narcotics continue to devastate American communities claiming over 100,000 lives in 2023 alone Trump’s no-nonsense approach is a stark contrast to the weak-kneed “cooperation” models of the Obama-Biden years, where talking points replaced enforcement and photo-ops replaced real action.
“Unprecedented death and destruction to American communities and families requires unprecedented action by the United States government,” Maltz said.
He's right. And this administration is proving once again that America will not be a playground for foreign criminals or the corrupt leaders who protect them.
