Trump Announces Restoration Of Original Army Base Names
Reverses Biden’s politically driven renaming of historic military installations.

In another major step to undo the damage of the Biden era, President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that his administration will restore the original names of several historic U.S. Army bases that were stripped under Biden’s politically motivated directive.
Speaking at Fort Bragg, one of the iconic bases targeted for renaming, Trump declared, "We are also going to be restoring the names to Fort Pickett, Fort Hood, Fort Gordon, Fort Rucker, Fort Polk, Fort A.P. Hill, and Fort Robert E. Lee." The announcement was met with enthusiastic cheers from the crowd.
“We won a lot of battles out of those forts. It’s no time to change. And I’m superstitious. You know, I like to keep it going, right? I’m very superstitious. We want to keep it going," Trump added, tapping into the deep respect many veterans and service members hold for the military history tied to these installations.
The Biden administration changed the names of these bases in 2023, following a 2021 law passed by the Democrat-controlled Congress. Under Biden’s Pentagon directive, the historic names were replaced with others that fit the Left’s obsession with identity politics, erasing decades of military tradition in the process.
The original names restored by Trump hold deep historical significance:
Fort Hood honored General John Bell Hood, one of the most prominent military leaders of his era.
Fort Bragg paid tribute to General Braxton Bragg, a career U.S. Army officer.
Fort Gordon, Fort Polk, Fort Pickett, Fort A.P. Hill, Fort Rucker, and Fort Robert E. Lee were similarly rooted in military history that spanned both U.S. and Confederate service, reflecting complex aspects of American military tradition.
The Biden Pentagon tried to justify the renaming by honoring Medal of Honor recipients and other decorated soldiers from more recent conflicts, including the Battle of Mogadishu and World War II. While these service members are undoubtedly heroes, the Biden administration's real goal was to erase any trace of names that didn’t fit their woke agenda.
This move to rename bases was just one part of the broader radicalization of the military under Biden, which has included prioritizing DEI mandates, pronoun training, and social experiments over warfighting readiness. Meanwhile, recruitment numbers have plummeted, and morale across the ranks has suffered.
Key facts about Biden’s renaming agenda:
The 2023 base name changes cost taxpayers millions in unnecessary administrative and signage updates.
Military recruitment dropped by more than 25% in 2023, according to Pentagon data, as the Biden administration focused on woke policies instead of mission readiness.
A 2024 Gallup poll showed just 60% of Americans express confidence in the military, down from 74% in 2018, signaling growing concern over political interference in the armed forces.
With the Army’s 250th birthday and Trump’s own 79th birthday approaching this Saturday, Trump’s announcement serves as a powerful reminder of his commitment to restoring American pride, military strength, and historical integrity.
“That’s a big story," Trump said. "We just announced that today to you for the first time. They said, ‘Why didn’t you wait till Saturday?’ Said, ‘I can’t wait. I got to talk to my friends here today.’"
As the military prepares for Saturday’s parade in Washington, D.C., Trump’s bold leadership once again contrasts sharply with the weak, divisive policies of the Biden administration.
