Trump Announces Plan To Rename The Gulf Of Mexico
The Gulf of America will reflect U.S. dominance in the region.
President-elect Donald Trump has announced that his administration will rename the Gulf of Mexico as the “Gulf of America,” a move that underscores his commitment to prioritizing U.S. interests and asserting dominance over a region vital to American trade and security.
Speaking at Mar-a-Lago, Trump addressed the trade imbalance with Mexico and the escalating crisis of cartel-controlled territories, stating that Mexico is in "a lot of trouble" and that the U.S. must take stronger action.
“We have a massive deficit with Mexico, and we help them a lot,” Trump said. “They’re essentially run by the cartels, and we can’t let that happen.”
Trump’s announcement comes as Mexico prepares for what could be the most aggressive stance the U.S. has ever taken against its southern neighbor’s drug cartels. With Trump set to retake the White House, Mexico’s newly elected far-left president, Claudia Sheinbaum, is facing mounting pressure as U.S. officials weigh military intervention.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Sheinbaum and her administration are desperately trying to assess how serious Trump is about cracking down on the cartels, especially since two key figures in his upcoming administration Rep. Mike Waltz (R-FL) as national security adviser and Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense have openly supported using military force to eliminate cartel operations.
During his campaign, Trump repeatedly vowed to take unprecedented steps to stop the cartel-driven fentanyl crisis that has killed over 100,000 Americans per year. His proposed policies include:
Deploying the U.S. Navy to intercept fentanyl shipments from China before they reach Mexican ports.
Designating Mexican cartels as Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs), allowing for expanded military and intelligence operations against them.
Implementing steep tariffs on Mexico if the country fails to halt illegal immigration and drug trafficking into the U.S.
Faced with these looming measures, Sheinbaum’s government has taken initial steps to crack down on cartel activity. Mexican law enforcement has made record fentanyl seizures, and a special elite unit is being formed with U.S. training and oversight to take on the powerful Sinaloa cartel.
While Sheinbaum has insisted that a U.S. invasion of Mexico “won’t happen,” her government's frantic response suggests otherwise. Mexico is well aware that Trump isn’t bluffing. His administration will be one that puts American lives and security first no more open borders, no more unchecked cartel rule, and no more weak diplomatic posturing.
The message is clear: under Trump, Mexico will have to clean up its act or face the consequences.
