Trump Tells Faith Leaders ‘We’re Bringing Religion Back’ at National Day of Prayer
New Religious Liberty Commission formed as Trump declares war on anti-Christian bias and defends the nation’s spiritual heritage

President Donald Trump took to the Rose Garden on Thursday with a clear message faith is coming back to the center of American life. Speaking during the National Day of Prayer, Trump not only declared that his administration is committed to religious liberty, but he also signed a new executive order forming the Religious Liberty Commission a bold step to defend the rights of Christians under fire.
“They said separation of church and state,” Trump told a crowd of church leaders. “I said, let’s forget about that for one time.” He then added, “We’re bringing religion back to our country.”
This wasn’t just talk. Trump’s newly announced commission will include pastors, attorneys, and faith leaders tasked with identifying threats to religious freedom and recommending concrete protections from church attacks to unconstitutional censorship of faith-based organizations.
Here’s what we know about the Religious Liberty Commission:
The body will monitor violations of First Amendment rights, especially those affecting Christians in schools, workplaces, and public forums.
It will focus on protecting houses of worship and faith-based nonprofits from government interference.
The commission is set to operate through July 4, 2026, aligning with the 250th anniversary of American Independence.
Trump was joined at the event by key allies, including Paula White, Texas Lt. Governor Dan Patrick, and Dr. Ben Carson. “There’s never been a president who’s invoked the name of Jesus more than you,” Patrick said a truth that resonates deeply with millions of Christian voters across the country.
This new action builds on Trump’s February executive order establishing the Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, which took direct aim at the Biden administration’s appalling track record of harassing peaceful Christians while turning a blind eye to violent anti-faith attacks.
The facts speak for themselves:
Under Biden, the DOJ prosecuted more pro-life activists than actual criminals attacking churches or crisis pregnancy centers.
In 2023 alone, there were over 400 documented attacks on churches and religious facilities, with many going unpunished.
Public schools across the country have faced lawsuits for banning prayer, blocking Christian student groups, and removing Bible references from curricula.
Trump’s speech was more than symbolic it was a powerful reminder of what’s at stake. He reminded the crowd that religious liberty is not a privilege granted by government, but a God-given right. And for the first time in years, people of faith know they have a president who won’t hide behind political correctness.
“Prayer is not a religious act, it’s a national necessity,” Paula White declared, asking God to grant Trump “wisdom beyond human understanding.”
That’s exactly the kind of leadership America needs right now: unafraid, unapologetic, and grounded in faith.
