Trump Says He Will Rededicate the U.S. as One Nation Under God
At National Prayer Breakfast, Trump slams anti-Christian bias and pledges national day of prayer.

President Donald Trump issued a bold promise during Thursday’s 74th annual National Prayer Breakfast, declaring that the United States will be “rededicated as one nation under God.”
Speaking to a packed room in Washington, D.C., Trump called on Americans to return to their roots of faith, freedom, and moral clarity, tying the country’s greatness directly to its belief in God Almighty.
“We’re going to rededicate America as one nation under God,” Trump said. “You just can’t have a great country if you don’t have religion.”
Trump then announced a national invitation to pray on the National Mall on May 17, urging Americans to “come together… to give thanks.”
Throughout his speech, the president reaffirmed his commitment to protecting religious freedom, calling out both domestic and international persecution of Christians, and warning against what he described as the “anti-Christian weaponization of government”.
“My administration will not tolerate unlawful conduct targeting Christians,” he said, referencing his February 2025 executive order that created a task force to investigate anti-Christian bias.
He also blasted Democrats for their hostility toward faith. “I don’t know how a person of faith can vote for a Democrat,” Trump said bluntly. “They certainly don’t give us their vote.”
Trump zeroed in on Joe Biden and Barack Obama, calling the former “the worst president we’ve ever had,” and accusing the latter of being “a terrible divider of our country.”
But the heart of the speech remained focused on faith and freedom, as Trump drew a direct line from America’s founding to today’s moral crossroads.
“In 1776, our founders declared that all of us are made free and equal by the hand of our creator,” he said. “Some major politicians refuse to say the word ‘God.’ I say it.”
The remarks come as Christianity continues to face growing hostility from violent attacks in Africa to bureaucratic suppression in the U.S.
In 2025, Trump designated Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” for Christian persecution.
In February, he ordered the government to investigate cases of peaceful Christians being targeted while left-wing rioters walked free.
Trump didn’t shy away from foreign policy either, citing his administration’s success in obliterating ISIS and slamming Biden for letting terrorist groups regain strength.
“We knocked the hell out of them the other day in Nigeria because they were killing Christians,” he said. “I said, ‘You can’t do that.’”
More than a political speech, Trump’s remarks served as a clarion call: a revival of America’s spiritual foundation, not just for voters of faith but for the future of the republic.
