Trump Slams Musk’s New Political Party as 'Ridiculous' Disruption to GOP Momentum
President defends two-party system after Musk launches “America Party” in response to massive Trump bill.

President Donald Trump delivered a sharp rebuke to Elon Musk over the billionaire’s new “America Party,” calling the third-party move “ridiculous” and warning it will only sow “complete and total disruption” as Trump’s Republican Party surges with momentum after passing the historic “One Big, Beautiful Bill.”
Speaking to reporters in Bedminster, New Jersey, before boarding Air Force 1, Trump dismissed the political stunt. “I think it’s ridiculous to start a third party,” he said. “We have a tremendous success with the Republican Party. The Democrats have lost their way, but it’s always been a two-party system.”
Trump emphasized that the American system was “developed for two parties” and that historically, third parties have failed to make meaningful impact, citing their tendency to create chaos rather than results. “So, he can have fun with it, but I think it’s ridiculous,” Trump concluded.
Musk, once one of Trump’s most vocal supporters, announced the formation of the America Party on Saturday, following a viral July 4 poll where 65.4% of over 1.2 million X users voted in favor of a new party. Musk decried what he called the “uniparty” in Washington, claiming that both Republicans and Democrats are complicit in wasteful spending.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy,” Musk posted. “Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom.”
But Trump isn’t buying it and he’s shedding light on what really led to the split.
Shortly after his comments to the press, Trump took to Truth Social: “I am saddened to watch Elon Musk go completely ‘off the rails,’ essentially becoming a TRAIN WRECK… The one thing Third Parties are good for is the creation of Complete and Total DISRUPTION & CHAOS.”
He also revealed that Musk privately supported the very provisions he now publicly opposes including the repeal of Biden’s electric vehicle (EV) mandate.
“I asked him whether or not he knew that I was going to terminate the EV Mandate… He said he had no problems with that I was very surprised!” Trump said.
The tension appears to have peaked after the signing of Trump’s $3.3 trillion legislative package, which gutted the EV mandate, slashed regulations, and delivered massive tax relief. It’s a sweeping, America-first economic plan exactly the kind of bold reform that separates Trump from the political class Musk now claims to oppose.
Trump also disclosed that Musk lobbied for a close friend to run NASA, but the president balked after learning the friend was a “blue blooded Democrat” who had never supported a Republican.
“My Number One charge is to protect the American Public,” Trump wrote. “NASA is not for sale.”
Musk’s America Party may capture headlines and gain a niche following among disaffected elites, but history is clear: third-party experiments rarely last. From Ross Perot’s 1992 flameout to Teddy Roosevelt’s Bull Moose movement, none have dethroned the established two-party structure. Musk is setting himself up to split the vote and help the very “uniparty” he claims to oppose.
As Trump continues racking up wins on the economy, foreign policy, and now border security he’s proving that reform doesn’t require starting over. It just requires real leadership.
