Trump Jokes About Becoming Pope and Triggers the Usual Suspects
While the media clutches its pearls, Trump’s offhand remark reminds America why he remains unmatched in rattling the left.

President Donald Trump sent the media into another predictable meltdown this week when he joked that he’d “like to be Pope” in response to a question about the upcoming conclave to choose the next leader of the Catholic Church.
The off-the-cuff remark clearly made in jest came as Trump marked the 100th day of his second term and took a few questions outside the White House. When asked who he would like to see succeed the late Pope Francis, Trump leaned in with trademark flair:
“I’d like to be Pope. That would be my number one choice.”
Cue the outrage machine. Though Trump immediately clarified he had no specific preference and praised New York’s Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the left was already melting down on social media proving once again that Trump doesn’t even have to try to live rent-free in the heads of progressives and their media mouthpieces.
Some online reactions played along with the humor, dropping gems like:
“Make Rome Great Again.”
“The Vatican has a chance to do the funniest thing.”
“You’re not gonna convince me Trump saying ‘I’d like to be pope’ isn’t funny.”
But others, predictably, couldn’t resist the urge to scream into the void:
“Trump. Does. Not. Joke.”
“God help us.”
“Isn’t he already the pope of white evangelicals?”
Let’s be honest it’s not the joke that offends them. It’s the fact that Trump is confident, funny, and completely immune to their faux outrage. These are the same people who stayed silent while Joe Biden botched Scripture quotes and Kamala Harris tried to define religious freedom as “access to abortion.” Now they’re pretending to be devout guardians of Catholic decorum?
Meanwhile, Trump took the question seriously when it counted, giving a nod to Cardinal Dolan a leader known for his firm but fair approach and advocacy for religious liberty in America. And while Dolan might be considered a long shot due to his nationality, Trump’s acknowledgment shows more respect for Catholic leadership than anything coming from the current left-wing establishment.
Let’s not forget: Trump was the president who fought for conscience rights, defended the Little Sisters of the Poor, and became the first U.S. president to attend the March for Life in person. That’s more than Biden or any Democrat has ever done.
This isn’t about religion. It’s about control. The left can’t stand a man who refuses to bow to their narratives, whether it’s on the economy, the border, or now the papacy.
