Trump Taps Retired General Keith Kellogg to Secure Peace in Ukraine
The distinguished general promises to bring “peace through strength” as Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia.
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated retired Army Lieutenant General Keith Kellogg to serve as Assistant to the President and Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia. Kellogg, a veteran military leader and seasoned national security expert, is tasked with securing peace in the ongoing conflict between the two nations.
“Keith has led a distinguished Military and Business career, including serving in highly sensitive National Security roles in my first Administration,” Trump said in a statement. “Together, we will secure PEACE THROUGH STRENGTH, and Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN!”
Kellogg served as national security adviser to Vice President Mike Pence during Trump’s first term and is a staunch advocate for the “America First” approach. His recent role as Co-Chairman of the Center for American Security at the America First Policy Institute underscores his expertise in addressing global conflicts.
In his new position, Kellogg is expected to lead diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a ceasefire and negotiating a settlement in the Russia-Ukraine war. He emphasized his commitment to this mission on X, writing:
“It was the privilege of my life working for President Trump, and I look forward to working tirelessly to secure peace through strength while upholding America’s interests.”
Kellogg has been a vocal critic of the Biden administration’s handling of the Ukraine conflict, describing it as an “avoidable crisis.” In a policy paper for the America First Policy Institute, he outlined a plan to bring an end to the war:
Pushing for a ceasefire and peace negotiations: Future U.S. military aid to Ukraine would be contingent on their participation in peace talks with Russia.
Arming Ukraine for defense, not escalation: Kellogg advocates providing Ukraine with military support to deter further Russian aggression but insists on diplomatic engagement to resolve the conflict.
Prioritizing America’s national interests: He contends that Biden’s “risk-averse” policies have prolonged the war, entangling the U.S. in an unnecessary quagmire.
“The United States would continue to arm Ukraine and strengthen its defenses to ensure Russia will make no further advances and will not attack again after a ceasefire or peace agreement,” Kellogg wrote.
Kellogg’s nomination reflects Trump’s broader strategy of restoring “peace through strength,” a principle that guided his administration’s foreign policy. Trump’s decision to appoint a seasoned military leader signals a commitment to ending the Ukraine war on terms that uphold American interests and prevent further escalation.
As Trump prepares to take office, Kellogg’s leadership could mark a turning point in the international effort to end the devastating conflict.
