Karoline Leavitt Outlines Trump Admin’s Top Priorities for Tax Cuts
White House outlines priorities, including eliminating taxes on tips, overtime, and Social Security.

The Trump administration is preparing to deliver the largest middle-class tax cut in American history, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt announced Thursday. Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Leavitt laid out the administration’s tax priorities, reinforcing President Trump’s commitment to boosting working Americans while closing loopholes for the wealthy elite.
Among the key priorities of Trump’s tax cut plan:
No tax on tips–Ensuring restaurant and service industry workers keep more of their hard-earned wages.
No tax on Social Security for seniors–A long-overdue measure to stop double-taxing retirees.
No tax on overtime pay–Rewarding workers who put in extra hours.
Renewal of Trump’s 2017 middle-class tax cuts–Extending the cuts that spurred record economic growth.
SALT cap adjustment–Offering relief to middle-class homeowners in high-tax states.
Elimination of tax breaks for billionaire sports team owners–Ending unfair loopholes for wealthy elites.
Closure of the carried interest loophole–Preventing Wall Street hedge fund managers from exploiting tax breaks.
Tax cuts for products made in America–Incentivizing domestic manufacturing and job creation.
“This will be the largest tax cut in history for middle-class working Americans,” Leavitt said. “The president is committed to working with Congress to get this done.”
Trump met with Republican leaders on Thursday to strategize the tax plan’s passage. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) originally aimed to pass tax cuts by April’s end, but with Senate Republicans prioritizing border security and immigration reform, tax policy negotiations may stretch into the summer.
Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) expressed frustration with the delays, telling CNBC, “We’re stuck in the mud… we need to just make a clear decision.” Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) noted that lawmakers are still debating the length and structure of the tax cuts, with some pushing for a mix of five-year and permanent provisions.
Meanwhile, conservative lawmakers want tax cuts tied to deficit reduction, ensuring fiscal responsibility alongside economic relief for working Americans.
Trump’s tax agenda is laser-focused on empowering middle-class families, rewarding American workers, and eliminating handouts for the billionaire class that Democrats have long protected. Unlike Biden’s disastrous economic policies marked by crippling inflation, reckless spending, and job-killing regulations Trump’s plan puts Americans first by letting them keep more of their own money.
With Republicans working to finalize the details, the Trump administration is poised to deliver historic economic relief. The only question is whether Democrats will try to stand in the way.
