Trump Calls for Keystone XL Pipeline Revival After Biden's Shutdown
The former president demands swift action to boost U.S. energy independence.

President Donald Trump is once again advocating for the revival of the Keystone XL pipeline, a critical energy project that was killed by the Biden administration in 2021. Trump’s call to action, posted on Truth Social Monday, reflects his ongoing push to restore American energy independence and counter the Biden administration’s anti-oil policies.
The Keystone XL pipeline, a proposed 1,200-mile project, would have transported crude oil from Canada’s oil sands to Nebraska, significantly bolstering North American energy infrastructure. However, the project became a political battleground, with environmental activists pressuring Democrats to shut it down. Former President Barack Obama initially revoked a key permit in 2015, but Trump restarted the project during his first term only to see it halted again by Biden on his first day in office.
“Our Country’s doing really well, and today, I was just thinking, that the company building the Keystone XL Pipeline that was viciously jettisoned by the incompetent Biden Administration should come back to America, and get it built NOW!” Trump wrote. He promised “easy approvals” and “almost immediate start” under his administration, emphasizing his commitment to cutting through the red tape that has plagued major infrastructure projects under Democrat leadership.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt echoed Trump’s sentiments during an interview on Fox News, stating, “We want the Keystone XL pipeline built.” The Trump administration has consistently advocated for policies that enhance U.S. energy production, reduce dependence on foreign oil, and drive down fuel costs for American families.
The Economic Impact of Keystone XL:
Job Creation: The pipeline was expected to create thousands of jobs, not only in construction but across supply chains and supporting industries.
Energy Independence: By facilitating up to 830,000 barrels of oil per day, Keystone XL would have reduced reliance on hostile foreign energy sources.
Economic Growth: The project could have contributed billions of dollars to the economy, enhancing the stability of fuel prices and providing a reliable flow of energy.
Since Biden’s cancellation of the pipeline, American consumers have felt the sting of rising energy prices. The administration’s focus on green energy initiatives has often come at the cost of traditional energy reliability, leaving families struggling with higher heating and fuel expenses.
Despite Trump’s enthusiasm, TC Energy, the original company behind the Keystone XL, formally terminated the project in June 2021. Its spinoff, South Bow Corp., has shown no interest in reviving the pipeline, with spokeswoman Katie Stavinoha stating, “We continue to engage with customers to develop options to increase Canadian oil supplies to meet growing US demand.”
While some of the pipeline infrastructure has already been dismantled, Trump suggested that if TC Energy or its affiliates remain uninterested, another company might step up to complete the project. The demand for increased oil capacity remains high, especially as global conflicts and supply chain disruptions threaten American energy stability.
Trump’s push to revive Keystone XL is part of a broader strategy to rejuvenate the economy, create jobs, and restore America’s energy dominance. With 2024 fast approaching, this policy proposal could become a key pillar of his campaign platform, setting up a clear contrast between his vision of American strength and the Biden administration’s failed energy policies.
