Trump Weighs Iran Strike Decision Ahead of July 4
President weighs U.S. military action as Iran escalates and Israel pushes for deeper involvement.

President Donald Trump will decide within the next two weeks whether to authorize a U.S. military strike on Iran, as tensions in the Middle East continue to escalate and Israel pleads for direct American involvement.
White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt delivered Trump’s message Thursday, confirming that the president is considering “all options” and has not ruled out a strike. “Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks,” Trump stated.
The decision window places a potential strike before July 4 an Independence Day that could mark a turning point in global geopolitics.
Trump said Iran is just “a few weeks away” from obtaining a nuclear weapon.
Israel has asked the U.S. to assist in striking Iran’s deeply-buried Fordow nuclear site.
Only American B-2 bombers are capable of deploying the “bunker buster” munitions needed to destroy the underground facility.
“I’m not looking to fight,” Trump told reporters, “but if it’s a choice between fighting and having a nuclear weapon, you have to do what you have to do.” The president has stood firm behind Israel’s recent airstrikes, which have eliminated Iranian nuclear assets and key military figures, but stopped short of direct U.S. involvement for now.
That may change soon. Iran escalated tensions Thursday by launching a direct airstrike on an Israeli hospital a move Israel’s Health Minister called “an act of terrorism and a crossing of a red line.”
The Trump administration has maintained “correspondence” with Iran, according to Leavitt, but there’s no indication Tehran is ready to de-escalate. In fact, reports suggest the regime is hardening its defenses around nuclear sites and ramping up support for proxy groups across the region.
Trump previously blasted Iran for missing its chance at diplomacy. “Iran is not winning this war,” he said. “They should talk immediately before it’s too late.”
But with every passing day and every new missile fired, the chance to talk fades and the pressure for Trump to act grows.
