Trump Warns Iranian Sleeper Cells May Have Entered Through Open Border
The president says authorities are monitoring suspected operatives who may have entered the U.S. during the previous administration’s border policies.

President Donald Trump warned this week that Iranian sleeper cells could be operating inside the United States after entering the country during the previous administration’s border policies.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said federal authorities are closely monitoring individuals believed to be connected to potential Iranian networks.
“We know where most of them are,” the president said. “We’ve got our eye on all of them.”
Trump’s comments came after a question from Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy about a federal alert sent to law enforcement agencies across the country.
According to the alert, intelligence analysts detected an encrypted message believed to have originated in Iran shortly after the United States launched Operation Epic Fury, the military campaign targeting Iran’s nuclear and military infrastructure.
Investigators believe the communication may have been intended to activate sleeper cells already positioned in the United States or elsewhere around the world.
Doocy asked Trump whether he had received intelligence briefings about the potential threat.
“I have been,” Trump responded, adding that some suspected individuals may have entered the country during the previous administration.
“A lot of people came in through Biden with his stupid open border,” Trump said, criticizing immigration policies that he argues allowed dangerous individuals to cross the southern border.
When pressed on how many suspected operatives could be inside the country, the president did not provide a specific number.
Instead, he emphasized that authorities are tracking those individuals closely.
“We’ve got our eyes on all of them,” Trump said.
The warning comes as tensions between the United States and Iran remain high following the launch of Operation Epic Fury.
The military campaign conducted in coordination with Israeli forces has targeted Iranian nuclear facilities, missile infrastructure, and command centers linked to the country’s military leadership.
In response, Iran has launched missile and drone attacks across the Middle East, targeting U.S. bases and allied infrastructure.
Security officials have been increasingly concerned about the possibility of retaliatory attacks outside the region.
Several factors have heightened those concerns:
Iran and its affiliated groups have previously carried out attacks through proxy networks and covert operatives.
Intelligence agencies warn that sleeper cells can remain inactive for years before receiving activation orders.
The United States has experienced historic surges in illegal border crossings in recent years.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported millions of migrant encounters at the southern border between 2021 and 2024, placing enormous pressure on federal enforcement systems.
Trump has repeatedly argued that stronger border controls are essential for national security.
The president also praised the progress of the military campaign against Iran during his remarks.
“The war itself is being prosecuted at a level that nobody’s seen before,” Trump said, highlighting the scale of U.S. and Israeli operations during the first phase of the conflict.
He told Republican lawmakers earlier this week that the campaign’s early successes demonstrate the strength of American military power.
For now, federal law enforcement and intelligence agencies remain on heightened alert as officials monitor potential threats linked to the escalating conflict.
