Trump Declares He Was ‘Saved by God’ in Inauguration Address
New president promises a "golden age" of American strength and unity after historic victory.
Donald Trump was sworn in as the 47th president of the United States on Monday, delivering an emotional inaugural address in which he reflected on a near-fatal assassination attempt during his campaign and declared he was “saved by God” to lead the nation to greatness.
“Over the past eight years, I have been tested and challenged more than any president in our 250-year history, and I have learned a lot along the way,” Trump said to a packed Capitol Rotunda. “Those who wish to stop our cause have tried to take my freedom and indeed to take my life. Just a few months ago in a beautiful Pennsylvania field, an assassin’s bullet ripped through my ear.”
“But I felt then and believe even more so now that my life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again,” Trump said, sparking thunderous applause from the crowd.
The president’s remarks referenced a dramatic moment in July 2024 when he narrowly escaped death at a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. An assassin’s bullet grazed his ear, leaving him bloodied but undeterred. Iconic images from that day show Trump raising a defiant fist as he was escorted offstage by Secret Service agents.
Trump cited the event as a pivotal moment in his campaign and a testament to the resilience of his movement. “That is why each day under our administration of American patriots, we will be working to meet every crisis with dignity, power, and strength,” he said.
Reflecting on his sweeping electoral victory, Trump described the 2024 presidential election as “the greatest and most consequential election in the history of our country.”
Swing States: Trump won all seven swing states, securing a decisive Electoral College victory.
Popular Vote: He carried the popular vote by millions, marking a dramatic shift in national support.
Broad Coalition: Trump touted his growing support across demographic groups, including African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and voters from urban, suburban, and rural communities.
“It is my hope that the recent presidential election will be remembered as the greatest and most consequential election in the history of our country,” Trump said.
Trump pledged that his presidency would mark a turning point for the nation, ushering in what he called a “golden age” of American prosperity and strength. “From this moment on, America’s decline is over,” he declared.
Monday afternoon will see Trump take immediate action by signing a series of executive orders addressing key campaign priorities, including immigration reform, border security, and the elimination of Biden-era gender ideology programs.
Trump concluded his address with a message of unity, promising to deliver hope and opportunity for all Americans. “We will move with purpose and speed to bring back hope, prosperity, safety, and peace for citizens of every race, religion, color, and creed,” he said.
With his hand once again on the levers of power, Trump’s bold rhetoric and decisive plans set the tone for what promises to be a transformative presidency.
