Trump Lifts Biden Restrictions to Target Houthis and Back Somalia

President Trump warns terrorists to “hide” as he re-empowers U.S. military and strengthens ties with Somali government.

President Donald Trump has once again put America's enemies on notice this time turning his focus to Somalia and the growing threat of Houthi terror infiltration. In a fiery post on Truth Social, Trump announced he has removed what he called “Joe Biden’s dangerous red tape,” giving U.S. forces full operational flexibility to assist Somalia in rooting out terrorist groups.

“Time for the terrorists to hide, but it won’t do them any good,” Trump wrote. “Our Warfighters, the Greatest the World has ever seen, will find them, and bring them to a swift Justice.”

The president's statement drew a stark contrast with the Biden administration’s sluggish foreign policy, highlighting his decision to once again unleash the military to do what it does best eliminate terror threats with precision and resolve.

Key takeaways from Trump's announcement:

  • Removal of Biden-era restrictions that hamstrung the U.S. military’s ability to act decisively.

  • Clear warning to the Houthis, the Iran-backed militant group now attempting to embed in Somalia.

  • Renewed U.S. support for Somalia, including counterterrorism operations and protection of strategic assets.

Trump pointed to the success of his past military campaigns, including the rapid destruction of ISIS under the command of General Daniel Caine, who he recently named Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

This move follows leaked reports of a letter from Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud offering the U.S. “exclusive operational control” of key military bases and ports, including Berbera and Bosaso. These strategic locations are critical in the fight against both al-Shabab and Islamic State affiliates, as well as preventing Iranian-backed Houthis from establishing a foothold in East Africa.

Why this matters now:

  • The Houthis are designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. government, and their reach beyond Yemen has increased, emboldened by years of weak international pushback.

  • Somalia, long plagued by instability, is now offering the U.S. a rare strategic opportunity to reassert influence and deny extremist groups critical territory.

  • Under Biden, U.S. influence in the Horn of Africa has waned, while Iranian and Chinese actors have quietly advanced their regional interests.

Trump’s bold move doesn’t just signal a tactical shift it’s a full-throated return to America First foreign policy. That means no more appeasement, no more apologies, and no more letting terrorist groups gain ground while Washington dithers.

As Trump said, the time for hiding is over for both terrorists and those in D.C. who allowed this chaos to spiral in the first place.
