Trump Claims U.S. Would Gain “Total Access” to Greenland Under Proposed Plan
President touts unprecedented NATO deal giving America permanent Arctic foothold for missile defense and mineral security.

President Donald Trump announced Thursday that the United States is on the verge of finalizing a historic agreement with NATO that would grant America “total access” to Greenland at no cost. The deal, according to Trump, would permanently secure Greenland for U.S. strategic use without a formal acquisition or any financial burden on taxpayers.
“We’re getting everything we want at no cost,” Trump told Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo.
The president revealed that under the proposed framework developed in coordination with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte the United States would receive unlimited, permanent military access to the massive Arctic territory, which is currently under Danish sovereignty.
This isn’t just about geography. It’s about national survival. “Everything comes over Greenland,” Trump said. “If the bad guys start shooting, it comes over Greenland. It’s pretty invaluable.”
At the center of the agreement is Trump’s “Golden Dome” missile defense system, a next-generation strategic shield designed to protect the U.S. and its allies from incoming threats from adversaries like Russia, China, Iran, and North Korea. Greenland would serve as a vital early warning and missile intercept point something no other location on earth can offer.
Key takeaways from Trump’s Greenland announcement:
No payment. Trump says the deal gives the U.S. “total access” with “no end” and “no time limit.”
Permanent military presence. Greenland would host parts of the Golden Dome defense system and expanded NATO Arctic operations.
Strategic minerals. While national security remains the primary focus, Trump confirmed that rare earth minerals are also a key consideration in the agreement.
“Everyone talks about the minerals. There’s so many,” Trump said. “There’s no such thing as rare earth. There’s rare processing.”
Greenland is rich in critical minerals like neodymium and dysprosium essential to everything from defense systems to smartphones. But its terrain and climate make development difficult. Still, with China currently dominating the global rare earth supply chain, Trump’s plan offers a long-term pathway to American mineral independence.
Despite pushback from Danish and Greenlandic leaders, Trump has steadily built momentum since returning to the White House last year. His administration has increased diplomatic and economic pressure on both Denmark and the European Union, warning that failure to secure Greenland would allow Russia or China to seize the advantage in the Arctic a region becoming increasingly critical in the new era of global competition.
“It’s still possible we end up controlling Greenland,” Trump said Thursday, leaving the door open to a full acquisition in the future. But for now, the access deal represents a major win for U.S. national security and economic strategy, achieved without military force or massive spending.
The Arctic is quickly becoming the next geopolitical battleground. While Democrats have spent years ignoring its importance obsessed with climate agendas and appeasing China. Trump has been laying the groundwork for American dominance in the region. With this Greenland framework, he’s now turning vision into victory.
This deal is a masterclass in Trump-era diplomacy assertive, strategic, and cost-effective and it puts America first in one of the most important regions of the 21st century.
