Trump Warns Europe After EU Slaps X With Massive Fine

President blasts foreign interference in American tech as Musk’s platform surges in popularity.

President Donald Trump is issuing a stern warning to European leaders after the European Commission levied a $140 million fine against Elon Musk’s X, accusing the platform of violating the bloc’s draconian “Digital Services Act.”

During a White House roundtable on Monday, Trump was asked about the EU’s action and responded with surprise and growing concern over Europe’s increasing attempts to control speech and censor information.

“That’s a nasty one. Elon has not called me to ask for help on that one,” Trump said. “I don’t think it’s right. I don’t see how they can do that.”

But he didn’t stop there. “Look, Europe has to be very careful,” Trump warned. “They’re doing a lot of things. … Europe is going in some bad directions. It’s very bad for the people.”

This isn’t just about a fine. This is about foreign governments targeting American tech companies for refusing to play along with globalist censorship demands. It’s about the EU using bureaucratic tools to punish free platforms that refuse to silence dissent.

The European Commission claims that X’s verification system which allows any user to obtain a blue checkmark contributes to “misinformation” because the platform doesn’t restrict verification to a handpicked elite. In other words, Musk’s vision of free speech and open access is too dangerous for the ruling class.

Meanwhile, X is firing back hard:

  • Musk responded by defending X’s democratized verification system, saying it was designed “to end the control of biased elites.”

  • X’s head of product Nikita Bier exposed the EU’s hypocrisy, revealing that the European Commission abused a glitch in the platform to artificially boost its own anti-X propaganda video.

  • X has since terminated the EU’s ad account, accusing it of rule-breaking and double standards.

“It seems you believe that the rules should not apply to your account,” Bier wrote. “Your ad account has been terminated.”

Trump isn’t the only leader speaking out. Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio both slammed the EU for the attack, with Rubio calling it “an attack on all American tech platforms and the American people by foreign governments.”

This goes far beyond tech policy it’s about sovereignty and free expression. If unelected bureaucrats in Brussels can dictate how American companies operate, censor speech, or impose multimillion-dollar fines, then who really controls the digital public square?

Despite the EU’s assault, the blowback may be backfiring. According to Musk, X is now seeing “record-breaking downloads in Europe” proof that people are hungry for free speech, not top-down control.

Here’s the truth: the European Union’s fine isn’t about “misinformation.” It’s about power, and their fear of platforms like X that let everyday citizens challenge the global narrative.

President Trump is right to call it out. And the American people and our tech innovators must not back down.
