Trump Addresses the Dismissal of Documents Case

Calls for End to Political Weaponization Following Court Victory.

Former President Donald Trump responded to the dismissal of the documents case against him in a Florida federal court on Monday, stating that this should be “just the first step” in ending the political weaponization of the justice system.

The case revolved around Trump’s handling of classified materials after leaving the White House and allegations of obstruction of federal investigations. Legal experts had considered this case one of the most serious among the four criminal cases Trump has faced.

“As we move forward in uniting our nation after the horrific events on Saturday, this dismissal of the lawless indictment in Florida should be just the first step, followed quickly by the dismissal of ALL the Witch Hunts — The January 6th Hoax in Washington, D.C., the Manhattan D.A.’s Zombie Case, the New York A.G. Scam, Fake Claims about a woman I never met (a decades old photo in a line with her then-husband does not count), and the Georgia ‘Perfect’ Phone Call charges,” Trump posted on social media.

He continued, “The Democrat Justice Department coordinated ALL of these Political Attacks, which are an Election Interference conspiracy against Joe Biden’s Political Opponent, ME. Let us come together to END all Weaponization of our Justice System, and Make America Great Again!”

District Court Judge Aileen Cannon, appointed by Trump, ruled that special counsel Jack Smith’s appointment was unconstitutional. “The indictment is DISMISSED because Special Counsel Smith’s appointment violates the Appointments Clause of the U.S. Constitution,” Cannon wrote in her order granting Trump’s motion to dismiss.

Judge Cannon also noted that Smith’s “use of a permanent indefinite appropriation” violated the Appropriations Clause of the Constitution. However, she stated that the court “need not address the proper remedy for that funding violation given the dismissal on Appointments Clause grounds.” The judge clarified that “the effect of this Order is confined to this proceeding.”

The dismissal of this case is a significant development in Trump's ongoing legal battles and could have broad implications for his political future. Trump’s call to end the alleged political weaponization of the justice system echoes his long-standing grievances with the investigations he has faced.
