Trump Demands Unedited Release of Kamala ‘60 Minutes’ Interview After Footage Altered
Deceptive editing accusations arise as Harris’ remarks on Israel and Hamas stir controversy in key swing states.
Former President Donald Trump and his campaign are calling on CBS News to release the full, unedited footage of Vice President Kamala Harris’ recent “60 Minutes” interview after a discrepancy in her comments about Israel’s war against Hamas surfaced. The Trump team claims that the interview was deceptively edited to protect Harris from backlash over her remarks on Israel’s actions in the region.
The controversy stems from a promotional clip posted by CBS on Sunday in which Harris appeared to say, “The work that we have done has resulted in a number of movements in that region by Israel,” suggesting that the administration’s advocacy influenced Israeli actions. Yet, when the full interview aired, this line was nowhere to be found. Instead, Harris’ response pivoted to “We are not gonna stop pursuing what is necessary for the United States to be clear about where we stand on the need for this war to end.”
Karoline Leavitt, Trump’s National Press Secretary, accused CBS of “deceptively” editing the interview to downplay Harris’ initial comments. “Why did ‘60 Minutes’ choose not to air Kamala’s full word salad, and what else did they choose not to air?” Leavitt asked. The Trump campaign is now demanding CBS release the full interview to the public, claiming that the American people deserve transparency.
Key points of the controversy:
The original clip suggested that Harris credited the Biden administration for influencing Israeli military actions, a politically risky statement as Israel continues its offensive against Hezbollah and Hamas.
The full aired interview, however, emphasized the need for the war to end a message that may appeal more to pro-Palestinian voters, especially in swing states like Michigan with large Arab American populations.
Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin recently warned that Harris is “underwater” in the state’s polling, further complicating her position in a state crucial to the 2024 election.
The timing of Harris’ comments and the alleged edits comes as Democrats face growing tensions within their base over the conflict in the Middle East. As pro-Hamas protests rise and anti-Semitic violence surges, the administration walks a tightrope between supporting Israel’s right to defend itself and appeasing the Muslim-American community, which has largely criticized Israel’s military operations since October 7, 2023.
With swing states like Michigan potentially deciding the 2024 election, Harris’ stance on Israel could be politically explosive. Trump’s team is seizing on the controversy, framing the edited interview as a cover-up by CBS to protect Harris from further damaging her support among voters critical of U.S. policy on Israel.
