Trump Tells Colombian President to Shut Down Drug Trade or Face U.S. Action

After fentanyl-loaded submarine intercepted, Trump halts aid to Colombia and warns Petro of consequences.

President Donald Trump has drawn a clear red line with Colombia’s leftist leader Gustavo Petro either shut down the country’s rampant drug production or watch the United States do it for you.

In a powerful Truth Social post Sunday morning, Trump slammed Petro as a “low-rated and unpopular leader” who has turned Colombia into the drug capital of the Western Hemisphere. Trump didn’t mince words: U.S. subsidies and payments to Colombia are over, effective immediately.

  • “President Gustavo Petro, of Colombia, is an illegal drug leader strongly encouraging the massive production of drugs. As of today, these payments, or any other form of payment, or subsidies, will no longer be made to colombia.”

This is not just diplomatic posturing. Trump’s comments come on the heels of a successful U.S. military operation that intercepted a drug-laden submarine headed for American shores. According to Trump, the vessel was carrying mostly fentanyl a drug responsible for more than 70,000 overdose deaths in the U.S. last year alone.

  • The submarine was intercepted on a known narcotrafficking route in the Pacific.

  • Four narco-terrorists were on board two were killed, and two are being returned to Colombia and Ecuador for prosecution.

  • Trump declared that up to 25,000 American lives would have been lost if the drugs made it ashore.

This is what real leadership looks like, decisive, unapologetic, and focused on saving American lives.

Let’s not forget that Colombia remains the world’s largest cocaine producer, with U.S. aid totaling nearly $500 million annually in recent years. Instead of cracking down on the cartels, Petro’s government has chosen appeasement while American communities are ravaged by overdoses, crime, and border chaos.

Trump's move to cut off funding marks a major shift from the failed "partnership" model of past administrations. It’s about time. Why should U.S. taxpayers fund foreign governments that do nothing to stop the flow of poison into our neighborhoods?

The message is loud and clear. America will no longer subsidize failure.

And if Petro can’t or won’t close down the narco-fields, Trump promises the United States will do it “and it won’t be done nicely.”

The left may wring their hands and whine about “diplomatic norms,” but Americans are fed up. They want results. They want borders defended. They want the flow of fentanyl stopped.

And Trump is delivering.
