Trump Secures Major Tariff Rollback From China in High-Stakes Trade Talks

New 90-day deal slashes tariffs and proves again why Trump means business with America’s adversaries.

President Donald Trump has once again proven that tough negotiating beats endless diplomacy. After weeks of intense pressure and escalating tariffs, the United States and China announced a 90-day reduction in mutual tariffs following critical trade negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The Trump administration’s firm stance paid off as China agreed to back down. According to the joint statement released Monday, both countries will reduce tariffs significantly, with the U.S. slashing its rates on Chinese goods from 145% to 30%. In return, China will cut its tariffs on American products from 125% down to just 10%.

This isn’t a “pause” it’s a strategic win, and here’s why:

  • Tariffs dropped by a staggering 115% on both sides, bringing immediate relief to American manufacturers and farmers who’ve been targeted by China’s retaliatory levies.

  • China agreed to suspend all non-tariff countermeasures imposed since April 2, further proving that Trump’s pressure campaign is working.

  • A new mechanism for ongoing trade talks was also established, involving high-level officials from both nations to ensure continued accountability and dialogue.

Vice Premier He Lifeng will represent China, while Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer will lead for the United States.

Trump’s no-nonsense approach to China stands in stark contrast to the weak posturing of the Biden years, where China routinely undermined U.S. interests from trade and technology theft to manipulating global supply chains with zero pushback from Washington.

“China was the only country that retaliated after we introduced reciprocal tariffs,” Greer stated in Geneva. “Every other country either sought negotiations or backed off. But not China until now.”

It’s not hard to see why they folded. Trump’s 145% tariff wall hit them where it hurts, while Biden’s era of appeasement only emboldened Beijing. The result? China blinked first.

With the new deal in place, both countries will implement the tariff reductions by Wednesday. Talks will continue, with sessions to be hosted in the U.S., China, or neutral third-party countries. This ensures a flexible, ongoing channel of communication one led by professionals who understand economic leverage, not soft-spoken bureaucrats chasing climate agreements.

While legacy media outlets downplay this win, the reality is clear Trump has once again used bold action to deliver results for American workers, businesses, and consumers. This is what America-first trade looks like strong, unapologetic, and effective.
