Trump Campaign Secures $130M in August as Election Nears Final Stretch
Grassroots donors fuel Trump’s campaign, but Republicans face funding challenges in crucial battlegrounds.
The Trump campaign continues to dominate the fundraising landscape, announcing on Wednesday that it raised an impressive $130 million in August, bringing its total cash on hand to just under $300 million. With the presidential race entering its final months, grassroots supporters are playing a pivotal role in keeping the Trump campaign competitive, contributing to 98% of donations being less than $200.
While the August total was slightly lower than July’s $138.7 million—raised during a month marked by an assassination attempt on the former president—the campaign remains optimistic. Brian Hughes, a senior Trump campaign adviser, credited the campaign’s momentum to a growing coalition of Republicans, Independents, and disillusioned Democrats crossing party lines to back Trump’s return to the White House.
Key Fundraising Highlights:
Trump’s campaign now holds $295 million in cash on hand, a drop from $327 million at the beginning of August.
August fundraising efforts saw an average donation of $56, demonstrating strong grassroots support.
The campaign is laser-focused on key swing states like Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, and Pennsylvania, where polling shows a tight race.
Despite the Trump campaign’s fundraising success, Republicans face financial hurdles in other critical areas, particularly Senate races that could determine the future balance of power in Washington. GOP leaders warn that they are being outspent by Democrats in battleground states, which could cost them winnable seats. The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) is sounding the alarm as Democrats continue to out-raise their GOP counterparts.
Senator Steve Daines (R-MT), head of the NRSC, expressed concern over the financial disadvantage Republicans face heading into November. "Left-wing billionaires are massively outspending us," Daines said, emphasizing the importance of closing the funding gap in the final stretch of the campaign.
As both the Trump and Harris campaigns push forward in the crucial months leading to Election Day, fundraising will play a key role in determining which party can claim victory in 2024.
