Trump: Newsom Arrest Would Be ‘Great’ Move by Border Chief

Democrat leaders clash with Trump over ICE riots as lawlessness explodes in California.

In a fiery exchange that perfectly sums up the current state of lawlessness under Democrat leadership, President Donald Trump said Monday that it would be “great” if his border czar, Tom Homan, arrested California Governor Gavin Newsom over the weekend’s anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles.

The chaos erupted as pro-illegal immigration mobs clashed with law enforcement, allegedly assaulting officers and attempting to block Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from carrying out arrests. Homan, a former ICE director and one of Trump’s most trusted voices on immigration, didn’t hesitate to warn Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass: if they interfere with federal immigration enforcement, they could face legal consequences.

Asked about Homan’s remarks, Trump didn’t hold back. “I would do it if I were Tom. I think it’s great,” Trump said. “Gavin likes the publicity, but I think it would be a great thing. He’s done a terrible job.”

Trump also made clear that while he personally likes Newsom, the governor has proven to be “grossly incompetent” when it comes to leadership particularly in managing California’s illegal immigration crisis, spiraling crime, and urban decay.

As expected, Newsom flew into a self-righteous rage, calling the suggestion of arresting a governor “an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.” But what Newsom fails to acknowledge is that his policies have effectively turned California into a sanctuary state for lawbreakers and cartel-backed traffickers.

  • ICE officers were reportedly attacked during weekend riots by demonstrators defending illegal aliens.

  • Newsom and Bass opposed the deployment of National Guard troops, even as violence spiraled out of control.

  • Over 4 million illegal crossings have occurred since Biden took office a direct result of open-border policies defended by Democrats like Newsom.

Instead of thanking Trump for sending in the National Guard to restore order in L.A., Newsom claimed he would sue the administration, calling the deployment “unconstitutional.” But Trump could easily invoke the Insurrection Act of 1807, a federal statute that grants presidents authority to use the military to put down domestic unrest.

On MSNBC, Newsom dared Homan to “arrest me,” while making an emotional appeal to illegal immigrants as victims. “Let your hands off 4-year-old girls that are trying to get educated,” he said. But this kind of deflection ignores the fact that immigration enforcement isn’t targeting innocent children it’s targeting lawbreakers, many of whom are linked to criminal activity.

Homan later clarified that no official plan to arrest Newsom was in place, but reaffirmed a key principle “No one is above the law.” That includes governors who harbor illegal aliens or stand in the way of federal officers doing their jobs.

At the heart of this conflict is a growing divide in America one between states that uphold law and order, and blue states that enable chaos in the name of progressivism. Trump has made it clear which side he stands on, and it’s the side of secure borders, safe streets, and federal agents who deserve the right to do their job without political interference.

As the 2024 election nears, this battle over immigration will only intensify. And judging by the meltdown from Newsom and company, it’s clear they fear accountability more than anything.
