Trump Blasts Democrat Senators For Pretending to Support His Policies Before Election
Democrats facing tough re-elections are suddenly aligning with Trump-era policies, but Trump isn’t buying it.
Former President Donald Trump slammed several Democrat senators on Wednesday for trying to tie themselves to his policies as they face tight re-election battles. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Jon Tester (D-MT) have released campaign ads showcasing their support for some of Trump’s policies, despite spending years voting in lockstep with President Joe Biden’s administration.
In a scathing post on Truth Social, Trump called out these senators for what he described as opportunistic flip-flopping: “They only pretend to be on my side when elections roll around,” Trump wrote, accusing them of attempting to mislead voters. He added that these Democrats have consistently supported “Crooked Joe Biden almost 100% of the time.”
Trump named the GOP challengers in these crucial Senate races: Bernie Moreno (OH), Dave McCormick (PA), Eric Hovde (WI), and Sam Brown (NV). He urged voters to support these candidates who are truly aligned with his policies and the America First agenda.
Trump’s remarks come as polling shows these races tightening. In Pennsylvania, Bob Casey’s lead over McCormick has shrunk to just 1.9 points, according to RealClearPolitics, while Baldwin in Wisconsin leads Eric Hovde by a slim 1.5 points.
Despite their efforts to distance themselves from the Biden-Harris administration, these Democrats have repeatedly voted with Biden on critical issues, Trump pointed out.
Democrats like Casey and Baldwin have sought to highlight their support for specific Trump-era policies in their ads. In one Casey ad, the narrator boasts that Casey “bucked Biden” to protect fracking and worked with Trump to end NAFTA and impose tariffs on China. Similarly, Baldwin’s ad claims she got “President Trump to sign her Made in America bill.” Sherrod Brown has run ads highlighting his work with Trump to pass legislation cracking down on drugs at the border.
Trump, however, sees this as nothing more than a last-ditch effort by these senators to salvage their campaigns. “It is not fair to those Republican Senate candidates, Bernie Moreno, Dave McCormick, Eric Hovde, and Sam Brown, who are with me all the time,” Trump wrote, reminding voters that these candidates have consistently stood by his policies, unlike their Democrat counterparts.
Michigan Rep. Elissa Slotkin, another Democrat facing a tough Senate race, has taken a similar approach. In her ads, Slotkin touts her role in writing a Trump-signed law forcing drug companies to reveal their prices. These moves are part of a broader strategy by vulnerable Democrats to appeal to swing voters by associating themselves with popular Trump policies.
As the election draws near, Trump and his endorsed Senate candidates are gaining momentum. In Ohio, Sherrod Brown’s lead over Bernie Moreno has narrowed to less than 1 percentage point. In Montana, Republican Tim Sheehy is poised to flip Jon Tester’s seat, leading by an average of 7 points.
While these Democrats attempt to ride the coattails of Trump’s popular policies, the former president has made it clear: voters won’t be fooled by candidates who only shift their stance when their political careers are on the line.
