Trump’s State of the Union Date Set by Speaker Johnson
February 24 speech will highlight first-year wins and set the tone for Trump’s bold midterm agenda.

President Donald Trump will deliver his first official State of the Union address of his second term on February 24, 2026, after receiving a formal invitation from House Speaker Mike Johnson. The speech is expected to be a defining moment for the administration, capping off a year of historic conservative victories and setting the tone for a critical midterm election cycle.
Speaker Johnson praised Trump’s leadership in the letter of invitation, writing “The United States stands stronger, freer, and more prosperous under your leadership and bold action.” He lauded 2025 as one of the most “consequential agendas in history,” highlighting the return of commonsense governance after four years of Biden-era decline.
With the nation preparing to mark its 250th anniversary of independence, Johnson framed the upcoming address as an opportunity to celebrate not only America’s founding, but also its renewal under Trump’s administration.
This will be Trump’s second appearance before a joint session of Congress since returning to office. His first speech, delivered on March 4, 2025, carried the structure of a State of the Union but was technically a presidential address. That historic address ran for nearly 1 hour and 40 minutes, the longest ever delivered to Congress a signature Trump move that combined policy substance with his unmistakable flair.
Expect this February’s State of the Union to follow suit.
The president is likely to highlight key achievements from his first year back in the Oval Office, including:
Securing the southern border after reversing Biden’s open-border chaos and restarting major wall construction.
Rebuilding America’s economy through energy independence policies, tax reform, and cutting Biden-era regulations.
Reasserting global strength as seen in the Maduro takedown while putting adversaries like Iran and China back on notice.
Restoring law and order in cities plagued by years of Democrat mismanagement.
Trump’s renewed presence on the national stage has already shifted the political winds. Recent polling shows Republicans with a clear advantage heading into the 2026 midterms, and the president’s approval rating among independents has climbed steadily since the fall.
Still, challenges remain. The GOP must defend key Senate seats, flip vulnerable House districts, and continue exposing Democrat obstructionism that threatens to stall the America First agenda. The State of the Union gives Trump a prime-time platform to rally the nation, define his administration’s vision, and energize the base heading into November.
And if past speeches are any indication, the event will be more than just policy expect dramatic moments, sharp contrasts with the left, and a few surprises only Trump can deliver.
The countdown is on.
