Tom Homan Criticizes Pope Over Stance on Border Policies

Former ICE director slams the Vatican’s double standard on immigration policies.

Border Czar Tom Homan did not hold back in his response to Pope Francis’ criticism of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, calling out the Pope’s blatant hypocrisy when it comes to border security.

Speaking outside the White House on Tuesday morning, Homan pushed back against the Pope’s claims that strong immigration enforcement is rooted in “force” rather than “truth.” The Pope also urged Catholics to reject what he called “discriminatory” policies against migrants.

Homan, a lifelong Catholic himself, was having none of it.

“The Pope ought to fix the Catholic Church,” Homan stated. “I’m saying this as a lifelong Catholic, baptized Catholic.”

Homan pointed out the obvious contradiction: while Pope Francis condemns border security efforts in the United States, the Vatican remains one of the most fortified places on Earth.

  • The Vatican is surrounded by massive walls built centuries ago for security purposes.

  • The city-state employs the Swiss Guard and strict vetting measures for entry.

  • Despite his rhetoric, Pope Francis himself enjoys the protection of high security at all times.

“He wants to attack us for securing our border?” Homan asked. “He’s got a wall around the Vatican, does he not? So he’s got a wall around to protect his people and himself, but we can’t have a wall around the United States?”

This is yet another example of global elites expecting America to abandon common-sense security measures while they enjoy full protection. The Vatican has no open-border policies so why should the U.S.?

Under President Trump, border security was a priority. Now, with Trump back in office, his administration is working tirelessly to undo the chaos unleashed by Biden’s weak policies. But the left, along with globalist figures like Pope Francis, continue pushing dangerous narratives that ignore reality.

  • Over 6.3 million illegal immigrants crossed the southern border under Biden’s presidency more than the population of 33 U.S. states.

  • Since Trump’s return, border crossings have already dropped by 50%, showing that strong leadership matters.

  • American communities continue to deal with record-high drug trafficking and crime linked to open borders.

The Trump administration understands that protecting American citizens isn’t just a policy it’s a duty. Homan made it clear that border enforcement is not about discrimination but about safety and sovereignty.

Homan’s message to the Pope was simple: clean up your own house before lecturing the United States.

“So I wish he’d stick to the Catholic Church and fix that and leave border enforcement to us,” Homan said.

Pope Francis is free to express his views, but Americans are free to reject hypocrisy when they see it. The bottom line is clear nations have the right to secure their borders, just like the Vatican does.
