Former acting ICE Director Tom Homan is calling out CBS News’ “60 Minutes” for what he says was selective editing aimed at shielding the Biden administration’s border policies from public scrutiny. Homan, who sat down for a nearly two-hour interview with “60 Minutes,” says the network cut crucial information to fit a narrative that painted Trump-era deportation efforts as excessive and harsh, ignoring the pressing national security threats posed by the current administration’s immigration policies.
Speaking with Elizabeth MacDonald on Fox News’ “Evening Edit,” Homan detailed how “60 Minutes” deliberately left out his warnings about national security risks, including dangerous individuals crossing the border. “They edited out what I said about deporting terrorists caught crossing and violent criminal illegal aliens and gang members,” Homan explained. According to MacDonald, the interview omitted critical details that would have provided Americans a much clearer picture of the severity of the border crisis.
Key points Homan says were omitted include:
National Security Threats: Homan highlighted the number of suspected terrorists arrested at the border, as well as the rise of individuals on terrorist watch lists entering the country under the current administration’s policies. None of this made it into the final aired interview.
Impact of Fentanyl and Sex Trafficking: Homan’s remarks about the alarming 600% increase in sex trafficking and the devastating amount of fentanyl flowing into the U.S. killing hundreds of thousands were also excluded.
Gang Violence: Homan discussed the dangers posed by gangs like the Tren de Aragua, whose members have been apprehended at the border, as well as the flood of criminals and gang members engaged in murder, assault, and drug trafficking.
According to Homan, “60 Minutes” approached the interview with a clear agenda. He claims the network aimed to portray any effort to enforce immigration law as "inhumane" and compared it to "Nazi-like" tactics. “They wanted to show that this massive deportation operation was going to be inhumane. It was going to separate families,” he said, describing how CBS edited out his outline of a targeted plan to focus on criminal threats, not families.
CBS’s decision to cut this information is not just a question of editing choices; it shapes the narrative Americans see about the border crisis, arguably hiding critical details that the public deserves to know. The timing is particularly significant as the country grapples with surging illegal immigration numbers, increased cartel activity, and record-high fentanyl deaths all factors Homan believes should be part of any honest discussion on border policy.
With national security on the line, the American people deserve more than selective editing that downplays the crisis at our southern border. The true scope of these issues, as Homan describes, is too significant to be filtered through a biased media lens.
