Tom Cotton Criticizes NBC’s Kristen Welker for Pushing False Democrat Attack
Senator Defends Trump’s Arlington Visit, Calls Out Biden and Harris for Absence.
Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR) took NBC News’ Kristen Welker to task on Sunday for promoting a misleading Democratic attack against former President Donald Trump over his recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery. The criticism centers on accusations that Trump used the visit, meant to honor the 13 U.S. service members killed during the Biden administration's disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal, for campaign purposes.
- During the interview, Welker repeated the claim that Trump had used the visit to Arlington for “campaign content,” a narrative pushed by Democrats.
- Cotton firmly refuted the accusation, emphasizing that the Gold Star families themselves had invited Trump to the cemetery and requested photos to honor their loved ones.
“These families, whose children died because of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’ incompetence, invited [Trump] to the cemetery,” Cotton explained. He noted that for these families, who lost their children in Afghanistan, the visit and the photos were a way to commemorate the sacrifice of their loved ones.
Cotton also pointed out the glaring absence of both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris from the event. “Joe Biden was sitting at a beach. Kamala Harris was sitting at her mansion in Washington, D.C.,” he said, highlighting the contrast between Trump’s participation and the administration's apparent disregard for the families' grief.
Cotton’s defense of Trump underscores a growing frustration with media outlets like NBC that seem more interested in pushing partisan narratives than in honoring the sacrifices of America’s military families. As Cotton made clear, the focus should be on remembering and respecting the fallen, not on politicizing their memory for electoral gain.
