Tim Walz Mocks Elon Musk at Rally Over Support for Trump

Minnesota governor takes a swipe at Musk’s involvement in Trump’s campaign, sparking fiery exchanges on social media.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate in the 2024 presidential race, took aim at tech billionaire Elon Musk during a campaign rally in Wisconsin on Tuesday. Walz mocked Musk’s support for former President Donald Trump, accusing him of acting foolishly at Trump’s campaign events.

Referring to Musk’s appearance at a 2020 rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, where Trump survived an assassination attempt months earlier, Walz said, “Elon’s on that stage, jumping around, skipping like a dips*.”** The crowd erupted in applause as Walz continued, “That guy is literally the richest man in the world, spending millions of dollars to help Donald Trump buy an election.”

Musk, who recently announced he would donate $1 million per day to support the First and Second Amendments through his America PAC, has become a vocal advocate for Trump’s 2024 bid. Walz criticized Musk’s financial backing of Trump, warning that Trump is “promising corruption” by planning to give Musk a role in cutting government costs.

The comments ignited a fiery response from Trump supporters online, with the “Trump War Room” on X (formerly Twitter) taking jabs at Walz. In a post, the group referred to the governor as “Tampon Tim,” mocking his nickname earned after signing a 2023 law that mandates free menstrual products in Minnesota public schools. The post continued, “Tampon Tim Walz known as the ‘Dancing Queen’ for his bizarre, wild gesticulations in public is now smearing @elonmusk for ‘skipping like a dipshit’ at President Trump’s rally. What a moron.”

Another post circulated a sped-up video compilation of Walz clapping and moving enthusiastically at past events, poking fun at the governor’s own behavior on stage.

Musk, who owns the X platform, also responded to Walz’s remarks, writing, “They know they’re gonna lose,” in a short but sharp retort.

With just weeks until Election Day, national polls show a tight race between the Harris-Walz ticket and Trump, with Trump gaining momentum in key battleground states. Betting markets also indicate Trump is leading, despite claims by Walz that Trump “is never going to be president” and Musk will “never run anything” in the government.

The back-and-forth between Walz and Musk highlights the growing tension in the final weeks of the 2024 election cycle, with both sides trading barbs over the stakes of the upcoming vote.
