Ted Cruz Criticizes Merrick Garland as Most Partisan AG in History

Cruz condemns Garland’s DOJ for unprecedented partisanship and corruption.

Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) launched a scathing critique of U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, labeling him as the most corrupt and partisan Attorney General in the nation’s history. During an interview on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with host Maria Bartiromo, Cruz condemned Garland following the Department of Justice's announcement that it would not press charges against Garland for contempt of Congress.

“Real quick, the significance of holding Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress,” Bartiromo prompted. “What does that get you? He says he’s not intimidated, by the way.”

Cruz’s response was unequivocal: “Well, this has been the most lawless and partisan Attorney General we’ve ever seen. The number of people on planet earth who were surprised when the Biden DOJ said they will not prosecute Merrick Garland contempt citation is zero. No person out of the 8 billion people on the planet was surprised because this DOJ doesn’t care.”

Cruz’s criticism didn’t stop there. He accused the DOJ under Garland of operating with a clear bias, targeting political adversaries while shielding allies. “Under Merrick Garland, DOJ exists to do two things, attack the Democrats’ enemies and protect the Democrats’ friends,” he asserted. “The degree to which DOJ has been weaponized trying to stop the voters from electing Donald Trump is ridiculous. And the degree to which DOJ is protecting Joe Biden from the evidence of his corruption and protecting his friends is shameful. The damage Merrick Garland has done to DOJ has no precedent in history and it’s really sad.”

These accusations highlight growing concerns among Republicans about the perceived misuse of the Department of Justice for political purposes. Cruz's remarks come amid heightened tensions and allegations of partisan interference within federal agencies, raising critical questions about the integrity and impartiality of these institutions.

Cruz’s pointed commentary underscores the broader debate over the role and actions of the DOJ in contemporary American politics. With the 2024 elections approaching, these issues are likely to remain at the forefront of political discourse.
