Cruz Says GOP Gave Democrats a ‘Decisive Defeat’ Across the Board in 2024
GOP sweeps with key wins among Hispanic voters and a decisive shift in South Texas
Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) didn’t hold back in celebrating a sweeping GOP victory this week, calling the results an “a** kicking across the board” for Democrats. In an episode of his “Verdict” podcast with co-host Ben Ferguson, Cruz shared his enthusiasm for not only his personal 9-point win over Democratic challenger Rep. Colin Allred but also the strong nationwide GOP performance that included Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Kamala Harris.
Last night, as you noted, we won by nearly 10 points,” Cruz said. “We won by a million votes. I mean, it was an extraordinary victory.”
Cruz highlighted that the Republican wave extended beyond typical GOP strongholds, pointing to a historic shift in South Texas where Hispanic voters, long loyal to the Democratic Party, turned out for Republicans. According to NBC News, Cruz won Hispanic voters statewide by six points, marking a “big, big deal” for a party that has traditionally struggled with this demographic in Texas.
Key Gains in South Texas and Among Hispanic Voters
One of the most striking changes was seen in South Texas a region that has been a Democratic bastion for generations. Cruz noted that several South Texas counties flipped from blue to red, signaling what he called a "transformation" in Hispanic voter alignment.
Historic Hispanic Turnout for GOP: Cruz’s lead among Hispanic voters was a major shift, with statewide support growing by six points. This change, he argued, reflects an increasing dissatisfaction with Democratic policies in traditionally Democratic areas.
South Texas Turns Red: Counties in South Texas, which have been staunchly blue for a century, saw major GOP victories. Cruz attributed this shift to voter disillusionment with the Biden-Harris administration, especially on issues like border security and the economy.
To win Hispanics statewide by six points is transformational,” Cruz remarked, describing the shift as a key factor in Texas and nationwide victories.
Rejecting the Biden-Harris Agenda
Cruz didn’t mince words about the impact of the Biden-Harris record on the election. Criticizing the administration as a “train wreck,” he pointed out that Harris couldn’t run on the accomplishments of her administration and instead campaigned on “change” a message that didn’t resonate with voters who felt the effects of Democratic policies firsthand.
“There’s a reason Kamala never talked about anything they’ve done,” Cruz said. “She ran as the change candidate, because she sure as heck couldn’t run on her record.”
What Lies Ahead for Congress
While Republicans gained significant ground, Cruz acknowledged that a narrowly divided Senate could complicate the legislative agenda. With Democrats retaining enough seats to filibuster, he raised the question of whether they’ll cooperate or continue to obstruct.
“Let’s be clear, that’s what this election was,” Cruz concluded. “It was an a** kicking across the board.”
The GOP’s 2024 victories signal that America’s voters are eager for a change in leadership, particularly when it comes to handling issues that affect their day-to-day lives. The shifting Hispanic vote, especially in South Texas, indicates that conservative values are resonating more broadly than before. As the dust settles, Cruz and his GOP colleagues are optimistic that this new wave of support could reshape the political landscape for years to come.
