Swedish School Shooting Kills at Least 10 in ‘Nightmare’ Attack
Gun violence surges in Sweden despite strict firearm laws.
At least 10 people were killed, including the suspected gunman, in a mass shooting at a school in central Sweden, marking the deadliest attack of its kind in the country’s history.
The shooting took place around 12:30 p.m. local time at Campus Risbergska in Örebro, an adult education center that was typically bustling during the day. According to Swedish authorities, a lone gunman opened fire on dozens of people before taking his own life.
“We think he is a lone perpetrator,” local police chief Roberto Eid Forest said. “It’s a terrible event, it’s exceptional a nightmare.”
What we know so far:
At least 10 people are dead, but authorities have not provided an exact number due to the extensive crime scene.
Six victims were hospitalized, with two reported in stable condition.
The suspect had no known extremist ties and was not previously flagged by law enforcement.
Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson condemned the attack, calling it “brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people” and the worst shooting in Swedish history. King Carl XVI Gustaf also expressed condolences, saying he and his family were deeply saddened by the tragedy.
Sweden, a country often praised for its strict gun laws, has seen an alarming rise in violent crime. In 2023, Sweden recorded one of the highest per capita gun violence rates in Europe, with over 40 fatal shootings in 2024 alone. The rise in violence has been largely attributed to gang-related activity, migration issues, and a lack of strong enforcement policies.
Despite these numbers, Sweden’s left-wing politicians have continued pushing soft-on-crime policies, failing to address the growing public safety crisis. Now, the consequences are clear.
Swedish citizens deserve real leadership one that prioritizes the safety of law-abiding people over the failed policies of the past.
