Trump Admin’s Request to Freeze $2 Billion in Foreign Aid Denied by Supreme Court

Leftist judges side with deep-state bureaucrats over American taxpayers.

The Supreme Court handed a major loss to the Trump administration on Wednesday, ruling in a narrow 5-4 decision that the federal government must immediately pay out $2 billion in foreign aid through USAID. The ruling comes after President Donald Trump attempted to freeze the funds via executive order, citing concerns about wasteful spending and a lack of accountability.

Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the Court’s three leftist judges in rejecting the administration’s emergency request, a move that Justice Samuel Alito called an act of “judicial hubris” that unfairly punishes American taxpayers.

  • Trump’s freeze was intended to prevent billions in taxpayer dollars from being funneled to questionable international programs.

  • A single district court judge, Amir Ali, overstepped his authority by issuing an order demanding immediate payment of the funds.

  • Alito, writing in dissent, blasted the ruling as a failure of the Court to stop an obvious abuse of judicial power.

“Does a single district-court judge who likely lacks jurisdiction have the unchecked power to compel the Government of the United States to pay out (and probably lose forever) 2 billion taxpayer dollars?” Alito wrote. “The answer to that question should be an emphatic ‘No.’”

Justice Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh joined Alito in opposing the decision, arguing that the ruling undermines the executive branch’s ability to set foreign aid policy and opens the door for activist judges to override elected leadership.

Ali’s initial restraining order blocking Trump’s freeze was questionable enough, but his subsequent move to force the immediate payout giving the government only 36 hours to comply was unprecedented. To make matters worse, he labeled the order as “non-appealable,” a tactic that Alito said was designed to shield it from higher court scrutiny.

Despite this blatant judicial overreach, the D.C. Circuit Court upheld Ali’s order, and now the Supreme Court has allowed it to stand.

This ruling doesn’t just override Trump’s authority it rewards deep-state bureaucrats and globalist nonprofits who rely on taxpayer dollars to fund their pet projects overseas. Trump’s effort to stop the reckless flow of billions to unaccountable international groups was a commonsense move to prioritize American interests first. Now, thanks to the Supreme Court, that money is gone.

This case serves as a stark reminder of how entrenched the Washington establishment is in protecting its own interests. And it makes one thing clear: securing a stronger, more conservative Supreme Court must remain a top priority.
