Stephen A. Smith Hints at Backing Trump While Taking Aim at Democrats

The ESPN commentator criticizes Democratic hypocrisy and embraces Republican messaging on America-first priorities.

ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith, known for his outspoken personality and sports commentary, made waves over the weekend when he voiced regret for supporting Democrats and signaled openness to backing President-elect Donald Trump. During an appearance on Fox News’ Life, Liberty & Levin, Smith criticized the Democratic Party’s hypocrisy and fearmongering tactics, stating he was ready to consider Republican candidates who focus on America-first policies.

Smith didn’t hold back in expressing frustration over the direction of the Democratic Party. “I voted Democrat, and I got to tell you something right now, I don’t like the fact that I did,” he said. His disappointment stems from what he perceives as a lack of accountability and misplaced priorities within the party.

One major point of contention for Smith was President Joe Biden’s decision to pardon his son, Hunter Biden, despite the administration’s constant refrain of being about the rule of law.

“I don’t want to hear about, ‘Oh, we’re about the law. Nobody’s above the law,’” Smith said. “But then you go out, and you pardon your son, and you try to blame everybody else for it.”

Smith also slammed the Democrats for their radical stances on key issues like law enforcement and immigration. “I don’t want to hear about defund the police. I don’t want to hear about … there should be open borders,” he stated, adding that such policies are out of touch with what most Americans want.

He took aim at the Democrats’ reliance on fear-based campaigning, saying, “I’m no longer interested in listening to a bunch of fearmongering to tell us who we shouldn’t vote for.” Instead, Smith demanded that political leaders present tangible plans and solutions to win voters over.

Smith’s remarks indicated a significant shift in his political outlook, as he expressed interest in Republican messaging centered on prioritizing the nation’s interests.

“If Donald Trump, JD Vance, Byron Donalds, Marco Rubio, or the host of other Republican candidates coming down the pike, that’s the kind of message that they’re going to put forth, I’m down for it,” he said.

He added, “We’re not about America only, but being about America and prioritizing what’s going on in this nation … that is not a crime for an American politician or commander in chief or senator or congressional figure to have that mentality.”

Smith’s comments reflect a growing sentiment among Americans who feel disillusioned with the Democratic Party’s leadership and policies. By signaling openness to Republican candidates and their America-first priorities, Smith highlights a potential shift in political allegiances ahead of the 2024 election.
