Speaker Johnson Defends Trump Officials in Signal Chat Controversy
No classified info, no war plans, just decisive action against terrorists Johnson calls Signal mishap a non-issue.

House Speaker Mike Johnson isn’t buying the latest media-manufactured scandal and neither should you.
After The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg made headlines claiming he was “inadvertently added” to a Signal chat involving Trump administration officials discussing strikes on Iranian-backed Houthi terrorists, Democrats jumped at the chance to call for resignations. But Speaker Johnson (R-LA) set the record straight: no classified information was shared, no war plans were exposed, and the mission was a success.
“Obviously that was a mistake and a serious one,” Johnson said Tuesday, “but thanks to President Trump’s strong leadership and the extraordinary people on that group chat, the mission was successful we’re taking out Houthi terrorists. That’s what the American people expect.”
Let’s be clear: this wasn’t a “leak.” This was a routine planning thread among top national security officials, including Vice President JD Vance, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and National Security Advisor Mike Waltz. The so-called controversy? A staffer accidentally added a journalist to the thread. That’s it.
Johnson didn’t mince words defending the team:
“They’re patriots.”
“They’re doing a great job for the country.”
“The president has total confidence in them, and we do as well.”
The Left’s outrage is as hollow as it is predictable. The same Democrats who looked the other way while Biden officials left classified documents in boxes beside Corvettes and in think tank closets are now pretending to care about a Signal chat where no classified material was shared.
Let’s remember what this is really about:
Trump’s team successfully launched strikes on terrorist targets threatening American and allied interests.
The Biden administration let the Houthis run wild for years, attacking commercial ships in the Red Sea and crippling global trade.
Now, under Trump’s leadership, the U.S. is once again showing strength and the media can’t stand it.
Speaker Johnson also shut down the idea that this would’ve been treated differently under Biden, saying, “I would have asked the same thing of the Biden administration… It’s a mistake, but we got to correct it going forward and they will.”
As for Signal itself, Johnson admitted he doesn’t use it but emphasized the obvious: “We got to be careful with these things.” And they are.
Trump himself told NBC News the error came from one of Waltz’s staffers, but made it clear: “Waltz has learned a lesson, and he’s a good man.” Johnson, a former colleague of Waltz, echoed the sentiment: “He is highly qualified, and he was born for the job.”
So once again, the mainstream media’s outrage circus is exposed for what it is a desperate attempt to distract from Trump’s clear, successful leadership on national security.
