Slotkin Defends Video Urging Troops to Question Orders by Blaming the Military

Michigan Democrat sparks outrage after suggesting service members are confused, untrained, and need political guidance.

Senator Elissa Slotkin (D-MI) is under fire after defending a deeply controversial video in which she and other Democrats including Sen. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) appeared to encourage U.S. military personnel to question or defy orders, particularly if given by President Donald Trump or his Defense Secretary nominee Pete Hegseth.

Rather than walking back the dangerous implications of the video, Slotkin doubled down and threw America’s troops under the bus in the process.

During a recent interview, Slotkin claimed that she and her colleagues only made the video because “so many” military members supposedly reached out expressing confusion about what orders they should follow.

“There was so many people coming to us… who were saying… ‘I’m concerned I’m going to be sent in uniform to an American city… and I’m going to be asked to do things I either don’t think are legal, or I’m not trained for,’” Slotkin said.

So instead of consulting the chain of command, referring troops to the Judge Advocate General Corps, or reinforcing military discipline, Slotkin’s answer was to cut a politically charged video one that implied the Commander-in-Chief was preparing to give unlawful or unconstitutional orders, without evidence.

This wasn’t just irresponsible. It was a direct attack on civilian control of the military, a bedrock principle of the American republic.

And to make matters worse, Slotkin justified the video by painting service members as confused, uncertain, and afraid of doing their jobs essentially saying “we had to step in and tell them what to do.”

The arrogance is staggering.

What Slotkin failed to mention is that military members already receive extensive legal training on what constitutes a lawful order, and they are taught how to raise concerns through proper channels. They don’t need Democrat senators to coach them from the sidelines, especially when those senators are openly implying that Trump-led operations are illegal before they’ve even begun.

Even more troubling is the involvement of Sen. Mark Kelly, the only participant who is a retired military officer and therefore still subject to the Uniform Code of Military Justice (UCMJ). Legal experts have noted that Kelly’s participation in the video which directly questions the integrity of the chain of command may be a violation of military law and could be grounds for formal review.

Let’s be clear about what this really is:

  • A preemptive political strike by the Left to undermine military confidence in President Trump’s leadership.

  • A reckless erosion of military discipline, suggesting troops decide for themselves what’s legal based on rumors and political opinions.

  • And a smear campaign implying that Trump and his future Defense Secretary would order the military to attack American citizens without a shred of evidence.

This isn’t patriotism. This is subversion masquerading as concern.

If a Republican had ever released a video urging the troops to question orders under a Democrat president, the media would be calling for sedition charges. But when it’s Democrats sowing doubt and panic in the ranks, it’s somehow “responsible leadership.”

Elissa Slotkin’s defense of her actions should concern every American who believes in a strong, apolitical military. She didn’t just make a mistake she signaled to our enemies and our troops that America’s unity under its commander-in-chief is fragile and politicized.
