Senator Mullin Calls for Firm Action Against Iran's Support for Terrorism

Advocates for Stronger U.S.-Israel Alliance Amid Rising Middle East Tensions.

Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) has voiced strong opinions on the need for decisive action against Iran, emphasizing the importance of holding the Islamic Republic accountable for its support of global terrorism. His comments came during a recent interview on CNN’s “State of the Union” with Dana Bash, where he addressed escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Mullin argued that the situation had already escalated, underscoring the necessity of demonstrating strength rather than pursuing peace through appeasement. “At this point, what they need to know is that it’s not peace through appeasement. It’s peace through strength. And there should be no daylight between us and Israel right now," he stated. He affirmed Israel's right to eliminate Hamas leaders backed by Iran, likening their actions to the U.S. operation that targeted Osama bin Laden in Pakistan.

“This is the organization that attacked them on October 7 that Iran has funded," Mullin emphasized, pointing to Iran's long-standing financial support for Hamas, a group designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. "For them to go out and take the leader out, they have every right to do that.”

Senator Mullin criticized the current administration, claiming that efforts to distance the U.S. from Israel demonstrate "weakness." He asserted that the geopolitical climate would be different under a Trump administration, which he believes projected strength that deterred adversaries. "If President Trump was in office, this wouldn’t even be an issue,” he insisted. “There would be no daylight between us and Israel if President Trump’s administration was in place.”

Mullin argued that Iran has become emboldened by the Biden-Harris Administration's policies, which he perceives as lenient. “You’re seeing the snake raise its head, and the snake is Iran. And that head needs to be cut off,” he concluded, urging for a more aggressive stance against Iran to counteract its influence in the region.

The senator’s remarks highlight the growing calls from some U.S. lawmakers for a stronger alliance with Israel and a more assertive approach to countering Iran's role in international terrorism. As tensions continue to simmer in the Middle East, these debates play a crucial role in shaping U.S. foreign policy and its approach to regional stability.
